Wouldn't that fall under the umbrella of Advertising? Toys are not works; they are not narratives in and of themselves; the narrative elements come in around how they are marketed (and, I guess, designed, although I would have a hard time seeing how the trend from die-cast metal to molded plastic is relevant as anything other than a useful note).

Do things like Busou Shinki go under Advertising?

I suppose that in most cases the issue is whether you consider the packaging of said toys advertising or just All There in the Manual. For example, with Beanie Babies, a good number of the tropes come from the little poem tags attached to the final product (and that page probably could stand to have more examples, but that's another issue).

I just feel that toys are off mission. Cars have tropes too, but we don't have a page for the Mazda Miata. Advertising is media. Packaging, even. But not the product itself.

The big exception, when it comes to Toys, is BIONICLE, which has entire story-lines in multiple media based around the toy lines, and considered to be canon for the toys. The majority of examples on trope pages are classified under "Toys"—the only viable alternative is "Multiple Media"—but I'm not sure one unusual example is enough to justify a whole namespace.

(I know this because someone gave me a Bionicle example at YKTTW recently, and I spent quite a while trying to figure out where it should go.)

Franchise, then? Bionicle is already there, and it seems the appropriate place to discuss the merchandising/toy products that go along with a series, or vice-versa.

Agreed, though generally, I think people prefer not to use Franchise/ unless the series has at least three different media. (I'm pretty sure Bionicle does even if you don't count "toy" as a medium.)

It's possible to have tropes for the toy and not the ad campaign. Character design and costume tropes are some obvious ones. I would also argue that elements such as the packaging the toy comes in are Paratext and shouldn't be considered part of a separate medium unto themselves.

Rhymes with "Protracted."

In hindsight, the complete removal of Web Original may have been short-sighted. It might be worth re-instating and used only for internet things that fit nowhere else, like Creamsicle.

How about a History/ or Politics/ namespace for the various U.S. Presidents and other political/historical figures who have pages here? Yes, I know Creator/ covers authors and a lot of these guys wrote books, but that's not the reason they are famous.

[up][up] We aren't about history or politics. We are about media. That's why we don't have an article for everything Wikipedia has an article for.

OK, then the pages for them should probably be moved to there.

No, they should be deleted, or incorporated into a Useful Notes or Analysis page.

Tweetsie Railroad came up in the "Where to namespace" topic. It's a theme park, and the way the page is written makes it look like a work more than anything else.

[up]Yeah, I'm impressed by the page, but a bit stumped at thinking of a namespace. I don't like the idea of using something like Theme Park/ or Amusement Park/, because that seems too narrow. I don't think we'd want a page on, say, Disneyland, but we might want a page on, e.g., "The Haunted House Ride" at Disneyland, which might contain enough tropes to justify a page. Something like Attraction/ or even a really broad supercategory like Interactive Entertainment/ (which would also be a supercategory of Video Game/ and Tabletop Game/, much as Animation/ is a supercategory of Western Animation/ and Anime/, or Audio Play/ is a supercategory of Radio/ and Podcast/) might work. But I'm far from satisfied with any of the ideas I've come up with so far...

Funnily enough, Pirates Of The Caribbean was originally based on a theme park ride. A lot of theme parks are on Disney Theme Parks.

Aren't we reaching a bit by troping theme park rides? Not that it's a bad thing, I suppose, but...

Some theme parks may have a narrative tying together their rides, a theme for each one that uses tropes appropriate to the setting, or something like that.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

I'd prefer to go with Ride/, as it's short and sweet, even if it isn't all-encompassing.

I'm for putting Bionicle into Franchise/ I know it has both toys and comic books, and though I don't know of any tv shows or movies I think it is comparable to Transformers on a smaller scale.
