Agreed. Somebody like McManus doesn't really count as a "real person" when it's in context.

I'd say pull the image completely, and don't use it on any page.

Per staff discussion, this trope and Phony Veteran have been decided to be made "no Real Life examples" pages. I'll work on that and pull the pic. Locking up.

"...self-granted ranks do not count." Michael McManus (the douchebag in the image) was arrested for violating the Stolen Valor Act. As far as I know, he never served in any military and therefore never earned any of the awards he's wearing. He's more suited as an image for Phony Veteran.
I can't think of anything to replace the image.
