Tabun not Sarin well wouldn't matter much both are nasty. The whole idea was to weaken enemies and cause more chaos to make post war maneuvers easier and IIRC it was mostly pushed by that German defector. Frankly it is the kind of thinking that was not uncommon for the cold war. Do something nasty or have someone else do it. Karl even comments at the end how this was whole venture was the beginning of a different kind of war ie the Cold War. Oddly insightful for an OSS assassin.

There's an implication that the villains of the games were never very grounded to reality, even within their own world. The Tabun V2 missile attacks in the second game were being portrayed to the German troops and high command as being the key to victory in the long term, when in reality it wouldn't even slow the war effort, and just cause more anger and less sympathy from the British side.

General Vahlen from Sniper Elite 3 was even worse. He was trying to build the damned Ratte of all things, and the factory producing it was out in the middle of the desert in Tunisia... miles away from where the main fighting was. He was hoping that the Ratte's success would allow him to carve his own separate empire in North Africa, but even his troops thought the idea was totally out of touch with reality. They also complained about the absurd amount of fuel and supplies it took to just maintain one, and how they were gonna be all dead men if they couldn't figure out how to even scrounge up the supplies for the second Ratte Vahlen wanted built.

We have sniper Elite 4 coming 14th of February of next year.

Bigger more open levels, new traversing abilities, read assassins creed like climbing. There is a new shrapnel cam which shows metal chunks and bits in X ray cam from exploded environmental items. Melee kills can have X ray kill cams as well now. New environmental kills are present as well. Longer shooting ranges likely dependent on area. They also say the made tweaks to the AI to be a bit more responsive to things you do like leaving bodies around and being reckless.

The gameplay looks good as always, but it still seems that the gun ranges are pathetically shorter than in real life. Guess that "adjustment" they were talking about was only marginal.

Thanks Septimus.

Sgt Ricko. It gets kind of hard to do really long range shooting in games it seems. I have never seen any game do any good sniping at truly long ranges without it being a gimmick or scripting. The ranges look like they can be longer depending on how you approach it. I will have to wait and see what they give us. We have a fair bit of time before we will see anything meaningful. Then again in world war II the average range for snipers was around 300 some odd yds with some longer range shots here and there. Mostly because of limitations of optics at the time and lack of ground up sniper rifle designs. So ranges between 150m-275m would actually be realistic.

Even with fancy $2000 gaming PCs they're gonna have a hard time being able to properly render anything that far out.

As long as the shots are still fun I don't really mind.

It still has all the crazy X ray cam with new stuff and new environmental kill options to boot. The melee kill cam is kind of gruesome though.

Since this one is set in Italy I wonder if we will get to do any Alpine missions.

I can't watch the video, I'm assuming we're still in WW 2. Where are we now?

How's the gun selection looking? And mods for them?

Fair enough. Even Crysis 1, despite being totally capable of rendering enemy behavior far past 250 meters, didn't allow the sniper rifles to shoot that far. Yet, the tanks could, provided you adjusted for distance a bit. Funny that...

EDIT: Italy. Gun mods are still in apparently, though I'm not certain if it still works as in the third game. Oh, and you can now scan targets for additional information, similar to Watch Dogs and MGSV. Heck, scan a single guy long enough and you'll be able to get a small blurb on their backstory!

That sounds heartbreaking. I don't wanna know about the guy I just shot for an achievement.

I gotta wonder when we're gonna leave WW 2 though. We've had four games there. Lets move on. Maybe to Korea. Or Vietnam, that'd be tons of fun. Hiding out in the jungle.

I doubt it. They haven't even touched the Eastern Front or the Pacific yet, and there's tons of sequel potential there. Operation Barbarossa and all the ensuring carnage alone would be sufficient material for a sequel.

This one is 1943 Italy set just after the last game. Karl is assisting Italian resistance fighters in the region and fucking up Nazi plans as per usual.

I am not entirely sure how you could do a pacific theatre oriented game. If we do the pacific it might be interesting if they used that for open world where you roam around the various islands or maybe your in the Philippines .I am almost afraid the Russian one would be set in Stalingrad and basically be enemy at the gates the game. Or maybe it could be sniper stalking Nazi's in the snow.

Korea or Vietnam might be interesting Korea more then Vietnam though. We already have a decent sniper game covering more modern conflicts and settings.

For more modern sniping there is Ghost Warrior but I am not sure how the last two games are in comparison. I never got a chance to play them.

[up]Not very good. Way more scripted and COD-like. The Sniper Elite games are by generally regarded to be the superior choice.

Hmm that is disappointing. The third one looks like it will make up for that though. Open worldish, exploration, time and weather change, and a variety of other things like customizing your own rifle and ammo among other things. You even have to zero in your scope for range.

Hey, so Sniper Elite 4 is out now. For those who didn't pre-order, you can still get them at a discount at Green Man Gaming and Gamers Gate.

If it affects your purchase decision one way or another, it's on Denuvo.

So, what are your thoughts? I haven't decided myself, but reviews are positive - with emphasis on open-ended objectives and bland story.

I have been watching Jack Septic Eye play it and it looks pretty good. More or less open large areas and the new x-ray cams seem to turn up the gruesome a bit. Like the fragmentation kill cam and the melee kill cam.

Fun gameplay and bland story sounds about right for these games to be honest.

I'll probably pick it up after it gets discounted.

I'm still thinking about which system to grab it for. So far I've bought the previous iterations for the PC, but given the increase in system requirements for this one, it might be better to grab it on the PS 4. That, and if you guys are planning to get it on consoles, at least I'll have some buddies to play it online with.

I got 3 for PC but I don't think I can manage this one. I'll probably go for PS 4 too. If I get it at all. I got no money.

I bought a used copy for the PS 4 yesterday at Gamestop. Was quite cheap thanks to this being my month of birth and getting a 20% discount.

Currently playing it right now, and if I had to briefly describe the gameplay, it'd be that it feels like a mix between MGSV and Splinter Cell: Conviction, just in a WWII setting and with no non-lethal options. Also, the SM Gs and pistols are no longer crap and have both good range, accuracy and damage! That's a big step up from the last two games where the only handgun that was worthwhile was the Welrod due to it being silenced, and the SM Gs were pure up-close spray-and-pray weapons with no hope of engaging enemies at a distance.

So I was thinking "Damn, this game is easy" and did that thing where you tried to stealth shoot everyone in the face. Then, I messed up and got some tens people converging on me from me in every direction as well as Signalers being either behind cover or way too far from me to binocular'd them.

In other words, I've gained an incredible appreciation for booby-trapping the corpses of my enemies. Doing that then throwing them off of second floor's my favorite combo.
