I just stumbled upon the Real Life section of Lover and Beloved (which was pretty big and was split).

Uh...I'm not going to debate the trope since it happens in fiction, but do we need Real Life section for this, especially the stuff involving young teenagers? One of the examples is the Alex and Derek King case for crying out loud.

We most certainty don't need a real life section for this trope. I'm not saying we need to rename this but the name is kind of vague. It would benefit if we turn it into a supertrope or something.

I don't think this needs real-life examples.

Also, I'm having trouble seeing why a trope called "lover and beloved" needs to restrict itself to male gay lovers.

Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!

Basically because it is named after the most common translation of erastês and erômenos.

How many people would know Greek here though?

The name isn't the primary topic of this thread. If we want to make an argument for renaming, someone should start a "Misused" or "Ambiguous Name" thread and make an argument for renaming, with evidence presented in the first post.

I think for the moment we should focus on the problem presented in the thread: Is the Real Life section problematic? Should it be nuked? I say yes. In large part this is sex related trope (even if indirectly) and it deals with relationships which sometimes cross the legal boundaries of many modern countries. Given that there has apparently been a ruling made to nuke all Real Life sections for sexuality, I would say nuke this.

[edit] Oh, OK, the RL Section is a separate subpage. Whatever.

The main value of the real-life section is to point out that many historical societies have used this; most historical forms of homosexuality have been either age-structured (the "bottom" is non-adult) or gender-structured (the "bottom" is non-masculine), with egalitarian homosexuality a relatively novel invention. A link to Wikipedia in the description would be an adequate substitute.
