So we're going to pretend rape doesn't exist? I don't mind renaming them, but it's absurd to remove every mention of it. As awful as it is, it happens in a lot of works, many of which are rather harmless and treat rape as realistically horrifying.

I very much agree. If this is an issue with the ad servers, I'm betting money that a troll is responsible.

I have no idea what google's complaint was... but "No, if you even mention rape, we won't let you get money from our ads" seems extreme.

This. Are there any details on what the problem was?

I don't like saying this, but we need to shut up.

The dreaded R-word and every mention of is gone for good, not coming back ever. Deal with it.

We still don't know what the hell is going on, but at this point, I do NOT like where this is headed. I was fine with the removal of porn and pedo-pandering, but if this turns out to be a Third Google Incident, I may start looking for alternate trope wikis to be a part of.

It looks like an inferno is going to go off here, so I'll make one final post and then I'll be off the break in this new account by editing some pages:

1) If you think that not having tropes on the topic of rape is somehow ignoring that it goes on, you could stand to have your priorities rearranged.

2) Not treating rape as a trope allows for more thought-out handlings of the subject whenever it comes up, and gets rid of the trivializing aspect of having a shorthand for every type of rape and rape reactions.

3) Listing more tropes such as Unfortunate Implications or Double Standard doesn't adequately describe the horrors of rape, and is, IMO, trivializing.

4) The fact that the Rape Tropes cleanup only happened after the most recent Google Incident says a lot.

5) People shouted down other who suggested that a trigger warning should be placed atop rape trope pages, and dismissed the suggestion by saying that a trigger warning for rape would mean that there should be one for violent works.

6) I'm sure Eddie will re-allow rape tropes after a while. The flame wars or other cleanups will convince him.

7) This site, as much as I like it, has a user base that has time and again demonstrated an inability to handle sensitive and decisive topics with any form of taste. Removing the topic prevents mistreatment of the it.

8) The topic probably clashes with the family-friendly image.

9) The immature reactions that the cutting of these tropes ( Like the ones seen above. ) are proof that the user base might not be mature enough to handle this topic.

10) Absolutely zero people have been introspective on this, and nobody wants to even take a second to wonder if maybe us tropers are to blame. I don't agree with the heavy-handed approach or the cutting of the tropes, but not having them at all is better than having them in a place where they need to be constantly cleansed of skeevyness.

I don't want to get anyone angry, but these are my honest opinions on this. I won't respond, but feel free to tear me apart; I'm going to go make those edits.

[up] I've been through rape. Deleting the pages, especially the ones on the Double Standard section, makes me feel we're trying to push something awful-but-needs-to-be-talked-about under the rug.

@The Streetcleaner: How much of this "immaturity" that you speak of is indicative of tropers as a whole, and how much of it is indicative of fandom as a whole? Because tropers in general are fans of fictional works, first and foremost, and some fans can get rather creepy.

The Streetcleaner has been banned from Wiki editing based on stated intentions and admitted fact that it's an account created specifically to do this, probably a sock of someone else.

@The Streetcleaner: bullshit. Not with that name. Not with the first sentences of that last post you made. A new editor doesn't just show up and dive right into controversy. A new editor does that only if they had a previous interest in the site, or are being directed by someone with a previous interest.

I said this on another thread, but sorry about the way I was acting. I just went crazy after reading all of this. I don't like removing all mentions of rape, but I went and did for a couple of pages like A Clock Work Orange. In hindsight, I shouldn't have done that. I'll restore it back to the way it was if I'm allowed to.

Go ahead and ban me if you must, I messed up and I know I wasn't acting rational. Even if I can't edit again, I promise not to do stuff like that again.

As I said over on Content Violations, freaking out and panicking about things is never a good thing. You may do things you regret. If Fast Eddie wants us to remove any reference to rape in the Wiki, he will inform us of such. We have not been told to do so yet. There's no need to jump off half-cocked.

1) The name is a coincidence. I registered DAYS AGO. I'd have to be psychic to have known that this would happen.

2) I was trying to be polite, and didn't want my post to be blocked.

3) Yeah, my brother would show me things on here, but I also lurked for a while. This discussion just happened to be the one that I posted in first, since I actually wanted to actually edit the wiki, and I felt that it affected me directly.

I can understand that you guys probably get alot of crap, but you don't need to take it out on me, especially when I was arguing in favor of your decision.

[up]For what it's worth, I agree with you in every single point you've made.

The userbase (in general, as a group, not like, every single individual) here has this kneejerk reaction to negative criticism coupled with a persecution complex. And on top of that, things have been volatile in the wiki these last few months (years?). That's why you're being falsely accused of trying to start something bad or destructive when you're just pointing out what any other person would objectively notice about the site without having any negative veiled interest in it.

[up]Presumably, that the userbase is incapable of troping it responsibly. Plus, it's always rubbed kind of awkwardly with our 'this wiki is about celebrating fiction' thing.

All the talk about a witch hunt regarding cutting articles, and this is where the true witch hunt lies. The Streetcleaner just gave his opinion, and a very competent one at that. Dismissing those opinions based on guessing that he is a sockpuppet is an ad hominem. And how can you say for sure he is a sockpuppet and edit ban him for it? Remember the vandal I constantly annoy the mod team about? Well, it's much more obvious who the vandal's account is, and yet nothing can be done because of lack of solid evidence (the mod team's words). There is much more circumstantial evidence of the vandal being the vandal than there is of this person being a sockpuppet (if there is any about this at all).

[up][up][up] More like this, which I just found:

It didn't work. There is no explanation needed beyond the fact that the topic is a pain in the ass to keep clean and it endangers the wiki's revenues. We just won't have articles about rape. Super easy. No big loss.
Too vague, not helpful at all, and I disagree with the "no explanation needed beyond (...)".
