This is currently being treated as an objective - but, however, the name is too negative. This also really goes against our Tropes Are Tools policy (i.e. tropes are neither good or bad). Mostly, this just sounds like an excuse for Complaining About Relationships You Don't Like. I say this should just be cut, entirely.

In-universe reactions to this are certainly tropeable. We can just apply that standard and trim the examples as necessary.

You're jumping to the cut option rather quickly over anything more reasonable like cleanup or definition tuning.

Well, Clarste does have a point. We probably could just keep it to in-universe reactions.

Along the way, does the OP have any evidence in favour of its claims?

Well, both the trope name and the trope description are extremely negative - and, yet, it's not considered a subjective. Unlike another relationship-related trope, The Masochism Tango - the title of this trope makes a value judgement on how such a relationship should be regarded. With The Masochism Tango, there is no value judgement in the word "masochism" - since it's recognized as a valid form of a kinky relationship, and it doesn't indicate how the audience should feel about such a relationship. With Sickeningly Sweethearts, though - it indicates that the audience should view the relationship with disgust. Get where I'm going with this?

If we keep it to in-universe reactions to such a relationship, then I'm fine with the trope staying. Or else, if we can re-name and re-work this trope to be more value-neutral.

It doesn't seem that negative to me. The trope is a super happy couple that is all over each other and were it anyone else they'd be far too embarrassed to act like that in public.

It could use a rewrite I think and maybe a rename. Too much PDA is a trope.

I think this can be an objective trope without requiring blatant in-story demonstration. It's rare that this doesn't carry some implication of making other characters uncomfortable, and it's not subtle or debatable. I don't see any of the examples being used to bash couples someone doesn't like.

The description should be better, but the trope should stay a trope, and should not exclude examples just for lacking the exact reaction of other characters.

But I think the Real Life examples are pointless. Cut 'em.

^^^^ Septimus asked for evidence of a problem, not just a reassertion. Is the name or description apparently responsible for negativity or complaining in the examples? Confusion of any kind? Pretend my response to the claim "there is a problem" is "I don't believe it"... convince me.

Another thing to consider is the possible cultural bias behind the trope. Different cultural groups have different attitudes on PDA, and how much PDA is acceptable or not acceptable. We don't have a trope for Not Enough PDA, nor do I think we need one - and I think deciding what constitutes Too Much PDA is too much a subjective concept. Also, the article doesn't seem to be about PDA specifically - but, rather, about the relationship type in general.

Siding with Rodney here. I just don't see a problem with this trope.

The description could use a rewrite at least.

[up][up][up] That is easily bypassed—look at the target audience of who the work is made for, and also who it is by, and decide what sort of PDA is acceptable. Regardless, you're just stating your opinion on why it's bad. Prove it's bad.

I don't think the description is negative. Rather, it's portraying the attitude you are supposed to have about this couple: good for them, but get a room!

...That said, I do think examples where there is no in-universe reaction or at least flamboyant "Oh my widdle wuvvy dovey poo" sort of affections going on don't belong.

Sounds reasonable to me. In universe, a couple uses cutesy nicknames, hugs all the time, talks about how much they luuuv each other. The anime name 'stupid couple' is more negative lolz.

I don't see a problem here. Maybe specific examples, but overall the only thing I noticed was that there's a lot of Zero Context Examples.

I nuked the Fanfiction folder, as that was only complaining about how 90% of all fanfics are this and that the same 90% also are in the more famous 90%. Examples like this isn't what should be on the page. Only that it wasn't even an example, just a gross simplification and an idiotic overstatement.

Gonna lock this for failing to demonstrate that there actually is a problem.
