The previous ME 3 thread was closed because the last few pages devolved into personal attacks and bitching. This new thread is meant to let tropers discuss the game in a friendly, calm environment.

Well I guess that means we can, we just need to be civil and not all the, well...stuff that happens back there...

I have a feeling that Liara ends up with Javik. Completely ignoring the fact Liara has been fascinated by Protheans all her life (even being initially attracted to Shep because he was TOUCHED by them), he's the last of his species, and Asari finally get some new DNA to share (Prothean).

Plus, Liara gives Javik a little calm and softness, while Javik allows Liara to grow up.

Javik doesn't seem like the kind of character that would get together with anyone.

Can't talk about the ending? Watch me. Eventually. I do have to say I prefered Angry Joe's indoctrination vid to the "official" one. Anyone have a link to the google doc he mentioned about indoctrination?

And Liara was pretty disillusioned that her race of enlightened scholars turned out to be an oppressive empire.

Ah, words. Something I am comfortable with.

Ha! It's refering to Shep as her. Someone knows the truth.

You can absolutely talk about the endings. Just stay clear of personal attacks. If it gets heated in here again, the thread has to be closed again.

Or just a player character who's male.

[down][down][down] Fem Shep can't romance Tali. QED.

Soo...what's the current argum...I mean discussion? tongue

[up] Well, Javik can agree to write a book with Liara and try to enjoy peace when all it's over. I can see them being together.

The "Dangerous Precendent" arguement is just bullshit. First it's been done before in exactly this context. Secondly, it happens constantly with other creative works as they are previewed to audiences. Movies, books, many other commercial creative works are altered due to the fact that audiences weren't happy with them. This usually happens BEFORE release but this is not really any different, aside from happening very publicly and very widely, than fixing an unsatisfying movie ending.

Have the people who are claiming, "Artistic Integrity" and the like familiar with the steaming pile that is the endings? How if they are canon they are completely illogical, full of plot holes, and directly contradictory to the previous 100+ hours of gameplay? Because if you are then admit that this is really shitty art.

Well, Javik can agree to write a book with Liara and try to enjoy peace when all it's over. I can see them being together.
Heresy. Then again I could totally see Tali hooking up with Vega.

Don't say that about Tali, it's insulting

[up][up] But yes, I agree with you (not about Vega and Tali but about the rest). Plus one can't really dissociate art and merchandise in this society. I believe videogames are an art, but at the same time they are a product, and we are its customers. I remember there was a book on the topic and I'm trying to find it between all the books in my home. I will post a bit more about that once I do.

...what?

The Tali-mancer is supporting the idea of Liara hooking up with a random NPC out of the blue so I forwarded the idea of Tali hooking up with another NPC completely out of the blue.

I wonder if there would be any impetus for creating a category akin to, "Commercial Artistic Endeavour." A label that acknowledges the artistic effort that goes into a project while still admitting that the ultimate goal is to make stacks of money and the need to satisfy an audience.

Der Spiegel on the endings Oo

http://www.spiegel.de/netzwelt/web/0,1518,822948,00.html

For some reason the link refuses to work correctly. Copy paste it and delete the spaces between the ","s and the numbers. When I edit the post I can't see said spaces so idk what happens. Must have something to do with wiki code.

Here a good thread with the various statements that Bioware had made prior to the game's release

And for variety's sake, here's one pro-ending article:

But the biggest problem with all the outcry is that (spoilers ahead) the ending of Mass Effect 3 is fascinating, frustrating, moving, and weird — exactly the kind of ending that the videogame medium will need more of if it intends to mature.

Enterteinment Weekly. Whut?. If it intends to mature? /facepalm

Here's me entering my jaded phase again, but a company lying about the end result of a game's development is nothing new. What makes this time so special? Seriously, why is this of all cases different than say...Peter Molyneux hyping almost every single one of his games ever?
