What if we used a picture of Joe Camel?

Current image is too anime-centric. At least one adult western series should be added.

You know what I would like there? Watership Down. I think it is for kids, but people tend to disagree with me.

[up] Agreed; we definitely need a balance of anime and Western works.

The current image (put up after the thread was made, by the way) is simply terrible. It's an eyesore, the trope is nowhere close to being shown or demonstrated, and it's really just plain insulting. Even if we can't find a replacement…

Motion to pull

That said, the first post of this thread has a pretty good idea. There is this image, which shows the result of this trope. Although… it may be the coolness of the camel that swayed him, not the fact that the camel is a cartoony mascot. Also I could very well be entirely wrong about it showing the trope. evil grin

The Camel idea is definitely better than the current.

Please ignore this post. I had miswatched the current image, so what I had said right here was wrong.

I think we can add a gory screenshot to show an example of a mature show. I think it is the most clear way to show it.

For example: [1]

I don't really think Puella Magi Madoka Magica really demonstrates it... it would look like it was for kids even if it was live action. I mean, just look at the theme: it's a Magical Girl (i.e. cute, sparkly, looks like it's for little girls).

I think it would better fit under What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids? or What Do You Mean, It's Not for Little Girls?

But even so, you'd need to have seen the show (or at least read this wiki) to know that it isn't for kids.

[up] Agreed... but maybe we should make it clear what he advertises... maybe with a poster.

If the image requires you to look at the fucking caption to get it, something is wrong.

That seems to narrow down the choices for possible images to pictures from animated works where the characters are doing something clearly not appropriate for children. Maybe a scene from South Park?

Lets do a collage to show both Eastern and Western examples. I don't like the idea of just using Joe Camel.

It crossed my mind to use Persepolis when I thought "animation" + "not for kids", but then I remember, that thing is not in the ghetto.

What is wrong with just Joe Camel? He's the cartoon mascot for a cigarette company. Ostensibly not for kids. There was certainly controversy over him supposedly being marketed to children.

Also, is there some rule against putting a pic up while there's an Image Pickin thread link at the top of a page? 'Cause that's what happened here. The uploader should have suggested it in this thread so we (or I, at least) could have shot it down instead of having to be stuck with this shit. Also also, the pic was uploaded with the name, "lolfail." I kid you not. tongue

Ahh, the current pic is a collage already... Too bad the caption has to explain it.

Besides, Joe Camel by himself would be JAFAAC.

It's too bad my earlier suggestion has such low quality. I honestly do think that almost any Camel ad would suffice, though.

You'd think this is targeted at kids, wouldn't you?

I don't think Joe Camel, in theory, would be JAFAAC. Camel is a brand of cigarettes, and Joe is a cartoon.

However, that [up] doesn't look particularly child-cartoon-ish.

Ironically, only 2 of those in the picture are intended for adults; Family Guy and Ninja Scroll. How about a better balance that doesn't look like shit?
