Ugh. This reminds me of Real Life political debates and mud-slinging. Definitively in need of intervention.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI am in mind to excise the cutlery labels, or at least lock and archive them, as they no longer serve any apparent purpose.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"If anything, I'm thinking of moving FORKS back to /Main/ since while the Darth Wiki location is at self-request, many people seem to take that as meaning that SPOON is official policy.
I am not sure if lock and/or archive make sense here. It seems that cleanout is of primary concern at this stage.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI say cut them all. They no longer serve a purpose with the way the wiki is, and SPOON is used far too often as an example of official policy, and the position of Fo RKS on the Darth (back when the Darth was about being a bit cheeky, fun, and freer than the main, rather than the dumping ground for anything a bit controversial) is used to bash people who want less than overly-literal names. They (and all the rest of the tableware and cutlery named groups) need to be deleted. Maybe all moved to the Darth, but that is the only way they should be kept, even if archived.
Official policy is "Clear > Concise > Witty", which is in line with the mission of SPOON, but regardless, the point is that these "societies" are in no way official nor intended to exacerbate philosophical differences among the troper base. At a minimum they belong on Darth Wiki if any of them are there.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Agreed; moving all of them to Darth might be the best route to take.

Or at least to Just for Fun.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickWell, FORKS is in Darth, apparently by the creators' own choice. SPOON, CHOPSTICKS, PEPPER and KNIVES are in main. PLATTER is in Sugar.
Wait, now that I think about it, SPOON is in Just for Fun, while CHOPSTICKS, PEPPER and KNIVES are in main. They are even more misplaced.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerLet's just move all of them to Just for Fun. We don't need such clubs to start behaving like RL political parties in TRS or anywhere else and Just for Fun might be a good place to put them all in so as to hammer that point home.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanYup.
Alt account of Angeldog 2437.Just cut 'em, I say. They aren't fun, anymore.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyOut of all of those, FORKS is in immediate need of some purging for the vitriol. The others don't have many comments, except for PLATTER which is written Sugar Wiki style.
That option goes too, I guess...

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerOpposed to cut, but taking action like we did with Wall Banger/DarthWiki.Wall Banger I totally support. FORKS needs vitriol cleanup big time beforehand, though.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI am all for cutting them as they no serve no real purpose other then being annoyingly divisive. If cutting won't work shift them to just for fun or darth.
Who watches the watchmen?I don't really see much point in these. Maybe reduce the name list to simply names with no commentary? That'd cut down on the hostility.
somethingThe only real alternative to cutting is to clear their existing content and rewrite the descriptions with historical context and in a more clear, less in-jokey form. We don't want to lock them with the accumulated bile of several years. We don't want to lock them and leave tropers' names and comments visible where not even they themselves can remove them. We don't want to leave the text at the top, which is semi-joking, misleading, and not relevant anymore.
None of those things are useful to people who might read them as Just for Fun or archived pages in the future.
The only way it would make sense to leave them on the wiki is if we gave people reading them a reasonably clear idea of what these mysterious organizations of yore were about, and there's no reason to mention the individual members and their personal feelings unless they choose to leave notes about it on their troper pages.
We're not just men of science, we're men of TROPE!I'd definitely support clearing the comments on the member lists; that at least can probably be done without much in the way of consensus.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Hmmmm...maybe make a page titled "Wiki Cutlery" with a summary of each of the factions and the member lists folderized?

I'm in favor of cutting, because they're outdated and more than a little divisive.
Failing that, I would like to see all of them merged into one page (or at the very least, all in the same namespace) and having their list of tropers cut.

Who cuts the cutlery?
At first I didn't realize I needed all this stuff...FTW.
Also, support cutting these pages or at least trimming them down to a basic description.
"Did anybody invent this stuff on purpose?" - Phillip Marlowe on tequila, Finger Man by Raymond Chandler.Qui secat utensilia?
Support cutting or trimming. The Darth Wiki bilefest on Friends Of Really Kool Sobriquet is something that took me aback when I clicked on the page the other day. I thought we cleaned Darth Wiki of this crap regularly.

Keeper of The Celestial Flame
Crown Description:
Some of the cutlery pages have been shown to attract vitriol. What would be the best way to fix this? Note: Not all options below are mutually exclusive, but some are. Please exercise judgment
After a very long query about Friends Of Really Kool Sobriquet in Ask The Tropers, it appears there is an issue with this page.
Namely, there is a ton of complaining, and outright hostility in some parts. Case in point:
These things edge right into personal attacks territory, something which is really uncalled for, especially in a Just for Fun page. As I understand, all these pages were made as a light-hearted humor attempt by tropers and our habit of considering names Serious Business. Whining, personal attacks and hostility are the exact opposite of what these pages are supposed to be.
In my mind, all cutlery should be treated the same way, without any nastiness, whether in Darth or elsewhere.
