I unfortunately will not be able to see anytime soon. It's not screening anywhere near me, but hey I'm a patient guy.

I'm just waiting to see Digibro rip the film a new one, whether or not it deserves it, and thus everyone else online follows suit, >_>

Digibro is not that important. It's like saying everyone hated Pixels because of Moviebob's review.

L Dragon, just keep it in his relevant New Media thread. There's no reason to post any of that here except to troll people who genuinely enjoy the show.

Alice and Eugeo are coming to four SAO games: Code Register, Memory Defrag, Hollow Realization, and Accel World vs SAO. Eugeo is voiced by Nobunaga Shimazaki, and Alice is voiced by Ai Kayano.

Given how badly .hack managed to screw over its AI characters it's kinda nice to see SAO treating them as actual people.

  • Who 'dey?

Given how badly .hack managed to screw over its AI characters

  • How so?
  • Was this a random thought or somehow related to the above two characters?

it's kinda nice to see SAO treating them as actual people.

[up]They're introduced in the Underworld arc. They're as I understand both AI characters that are, in the narrative, treated as actual characters, to the point the surviving one is even given a robot body so they can interact with the real world.

Meanwhile in .hack. the most prominent AI character besides Aura, Mia is killed off as a backstory event between the original series and the sequel, after you already went through a 100 floor bonus dungeon to save her. Then her best friend's arc boils down to him replacing one obsession (Mia) with another (the new protagonist, Haseo)...which is played for comedy, complete with it possible for him to "marry" Haseo, with a wedding sequence that shows Haseo looking generally creeped out and unhappy the whole time. To say nothing of the town of A.I.s from the first game that was casually wiped out without any mention.

I should clarify, since we both watched .hack//SIGN, I was a huge fan of that show. Hell, I'm a fan of the franchise pre-GU. But a lot of the post-GU decisions with the franchise really rubbed me the wrong way. I apologize for bringing it into the discussion, since it was the kind of impulsive potshot that usually pisses me off. tongue

Regardless of whether you like the franchise or not, at least Ordinal Scale has one thing going for it:

I kinda wanna watch Ordinal Scale but I'm not sure if I should since I never watched Season 2 due the one thing I cared about the most, Asuna and Kirito's relationship, being shoved as far into the background as possible. I know of the events that followed Fairy Dance and the characters introduced but that's about it.

You really only need to see Aincrad to understand Ordinal Scale, since its plot is a direct consequence of that.

Wow. That... wow. I don't even know here to begin with that. I suppose the beginning is as good a place as any.

The leap in logic in comparing the number of viewers that digibro video had to the number of people who have SAO listed on MAL is so incredibly large that he could go from Earth to the Sun to Pluto and back again with it. That is not, in any way, a reasonable assumption to make. The fact that he then makes further, equally astounding leaps in logic is just... wow.

While I respect his sample size (even if I wish he had pulled from more than one source), a drop in average review score by a total of 0.42 points is not, by any stretch of the imagination, killing it. That's just hyperbole of the highest order.

Then you have the fact that he only addressed one criticism of his claim and completely ignored things like "If digibro killed SAO, how did it get a second season, an animated movie, plans for live action movie, and plans for a third season on top of the ongoing Light Novels?".

Finally, you have his "evidence" at the end which is completely meaningless. That guy's opinions of Season 1 are not indicative of Season 2. After all, you can easily enjoy a series but not want to see more of it for any number of reasons. I can think of several if "Because the ending was perfect or otherwise fine" is an acceptable reason.

Man, this guy is an idiot.

Gigguk has actually made me a little excited to see this.

But also made me willing to hear spoilers so I don't have to watch it.

  • What. Is Going. On?
    • SAO monsters appear in the game and are somehow hurting people in real life?
  • If Eiji is the #2 highest player in Ordinal Scale then who is the #1 ranked player?
    • How long has Eiji been playing that he's higher-ranked than Kirito?
  • Kirito sucks at this game because he has to use his actual muscles to fight, but... Asuna seems to be fine?

Alright, I actually kind of like the concept of Eiji and the doc.

But Gigguk has made me both love and hate this film's synopsis. (Spoilers out the wazoo)

Eiji is a rare antagonist that serves as a foil to Kirito. Basically, he's what Kirito would have become if he was still hung up on Sachi and obsessed with revivng her. The #1 player was supposed to be Yuna, in order to make her immortal. wild mass guessI suspect this "immortality" consists of Kayaba's GM powers.wild mass guess.

Yuuki does not really appear in the climax. The context makes it clear that what we're seeing is Asuna's memories of Yuuki, symbolized by the Mother's Rosary skill.

Does that mean that for the first week or so that Ordinal Scale was out, Eiji was the #2 and nobody knew who the #1 was? Isn't Yuna supposed to be the doc's pet project/the idol girl in the trailer?

Well Eiji knew, but everybody else just saw #1 as blank on the rankings chart. And yes, Yuna is the Professor's attempt to clone his dead daughter.

Soble Since: Dec, 2013

So... then he just made her #1 for convenience, or was she actually a super-powerful player?

It just seems odd that he would make his top-secret digital project the most coveted spot in the game. Or was he worried that if he just made her some random player she'd be lost in an index of tens of thousands of players?

He made her #1 to obtain the prize for defeating the original Final Boss of Aincrad, as part of his plan to make her the real Yuna. Clone-Yuna, however, was horrified at the prospect that the final memory collection could cause permanent disability or even death to the SAO survivors, so she refused to cooperate. Even Kayaba's ghost thinks the Professor has lost it, and the Professor admits he's becoming like Kayaba. It's also ultimately a delusion. Much as he touts this project as a resurrection, he's cloning his daughter, not bringing her back from the dead. It's no surprise, then, that he's recruited into Rath, who have already been established as the "Fools rush where angels fear to tread" characters.
