Wasn't DC Satan a brute with frost breath chained forever in hell?
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Yup, so he's screwed. Besides, PL is clever and somewhat Genre Savvy.
Conan the Barbarian vs drizzt Do'urden
...Aren't both of them wish fulfillment one-dimensional heroes in cliched fantasy books?
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Wish fulfillment, yes. But Conan's a lot smarter and has more depth than at first glance and Howard made sword and sorcery what it is today.
And Salvatore made the Drough what they are perceived as.
how about we blow up the scale? Westeros vs. Middle Earth (late third age) vs. Alagaesia (all book versions). I'd put my money on middle earth personally, book the other two pose a significant threat (westeros has the numbers and alagaesia some ridiculous magic, middle earth has a bit of a compromise). (dothraki and unsullied etc. only allowed if westeros can't recruit the Others and wights yet they still are under attack from them, middle earth has Rohan, Gondor, Lothlorien, Erebor, Mordor, the Haradrim, Isengard, all the nasty things found in Moria. Alagaesia has... It's been a while, what does Alagaesia have? the elves, dwarves, varden and teh empire, i suppose, and urgals)

'All shall love me and despar!'Do we count Gandalf? He's the equivalent of a demigod after all.
I It's like as I was explaining on the Dresden Files thread, Westeros is pretty weak in magic. Middle-earth is as well, but the artifacts and few genuinely powerful magic users tend to dwarf everything around them with their sheer power. And if any of the Valar got involved the fight would be over in a day.
hmmm... i suppose the Valar would be banned because technically they're not on the continent of middle earth, but some of the maiar are threatening enough. Shelob, Sauron and Durin's bane might prove enough, plus the nameless things that gnaw in the abyss under moria. the istari are definitely a force to be reckoned with. that being said, Alagaeisa's sheer numbers of magic users might balance that out, and Westeros's manpower and wights could prove difficult.
'All shall love me and despar!'Unsullied legion versus Aleran legion.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.That even a contest? *Maybe* with dragons, it might be a fair fight.
Joscelin Verreuli (Kushiel's Legacy) vs. Mandoralan (the Belgariad)
Joscelin for sure, no doubt.
Okay, now for a topic no sane person ever brings up on a forum. Yuuzhan Vong vs Transformers. Since this thread is in the literature section, we are going to assume Transformers: Exodus but if you want to comment on the Vong going against another incarnation of Transformers in addition or as an alternative, feel free.

Vong, no question. It's pure numbers: they were a major threat to a galactic civilization. There's at most a single planetary population of Transformers , and not a terribly large one. Even if every single Autobot was equal to a Star Destroyer (they're not ), they'd still be overwhelmed.
Jedi Order vs. The White Council.

My initial impression would be the White Council. Mainly because of what we see some of them do in the war against the Red Court.
But I've read very little Expanded Universe content. So maybe I'm not that qualified to judge.
For one, I would need to know how many bottle caps Yoda has in his collection.
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobSherlock Holmes vs A.J. Raffles?
Shoo her in, Effie darling, shoo her in.Immediate answer would be Raffles, since he plays dirty.
On the other hand, Holmes is probably smarter than him and while Raffles is pretty athletic, Holmes knows the (semi-fictional) martial art Baritsu.
Another one just came to me.
Matthew Scudder vs Philip Marlowe.

Shoo her in, Effie darling, shoo her in.Humphrey Bogart's Marlowe wins. Against everyone. Elliott Gould's Marlowe loses. Against everyone.
D'Artagnan vs. The Count of Montecristo
Old age, treachery, and prison time beat youth, inexperience, and foppery.
Odysseus vs. Achilles.
Odysseus, everytime.
Katniss Everdeen versus Tris Prior
Tris Prior sounds like a comedy actor, so that makes me go with Katniss. However, as far as I remember, Katniss had a degree of self esteem while Tris had none besides a refusal to show weakness. Haven't read more than a summary of "Divergent" and only saw the "Hunger Games" movie, so please, enlighten me if my decision is too ill informed.
x5. Hey! I liked Elliot Gould!
I don't know much about either character, but from the limited knowledge that I do have, I think Sauron takes this.
Tyler Durden vs Mr. Hyde.

Shoo her in, Effie darling, shoo her in.
Yes, but exactly who would win in a fight is kind of hard to tell without some victory condition. I am not sure one would put down the other very effectively if they were just swinging at each other. Yeine I would say just to give an answer though.
Satan (Divine Comedy) vs Satan (Paradise Lost)
