Biff kicks more dogs before lunch than you do all day.

I don't see the need to change a classic image that's been around forever.

I find the GI Joe one funnier, but it's a literal example of a metaphorical title. It's a tossup for me.

The GI Joe one is hilarious, and fits the trope both literally and metaphorically. I think the idea that it might cause people to think too literally is a small risk.

Definitely prefer the current, although I really hate the caption.

I see rodney already pulled the caption (it was one of those "[X] shows us how it's done" ones). So... alternatives?

"Wants to rule the world. Leads uprisings in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Kidnaps scientists, businessmen and military leaders. Kicks dogs."

[up] That one's better, as it's shorter.

The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.

Keep the original.

On the matter of the caption, if I recall, at some point it was something along the lines of "Cobra Commander is really a cat person".

The name, image, and quote are all about literally kicking literal dogs. It's not a "small risk". TRS thread about it.

Considering how widespread the trope is among this site, I don't think literalism is a problem.

@8 - maybe append "Oh yeah, he's evil."

It'd help divert the focus from "he's kicking a dog!" to "he's kicking a dog - he must be evil!", if only a bit.

[up][up][up] Some people are advocating an image for kicking the dog that does not involve a dog. Meanwhile, If You're So Evil, Eat This Kitten! has a picture of someone being asked to eat a puppy. I think it's actually possible to try too hard.

How about for the Kick the Dog Film subpage? Instead of:

That's...pretty goddamned awful. I had to stare for like 10 seconds before I could even see Lotso holding a cane.

I thought it's not supposed to have an image?

The OP image can at least go to the Film subpage. I can't gauge how much literalism is an issue.

The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.

Literal dog kicking can be an example of the trope, so I really don't see an issue with the current picture.

Also, Kick the Dog was dragged into TRS not because it is being over-used for dog kicking and underused for non-dog-kicking, but because it is being used for any mean act whatsoever, which suggests that Tropers as a whole are not mistaking this for a trope limited to real dogs.

[up] If that's the case, then having the caption indicating the stuff he does makes even more sense.

I think having a more conventional evil villain makes this clearer, which is one reason I'm not crazy about the Biff image.

Actually, the Biff image would work swell on the Film/ subpage.

[up] Agreed. Cobra Commander could be moved to the Comic Books subpage as well.

Egh. I like Cobra Commander on the main page.

Not to mention he's much more TV-centric than he is comic-centric.

As a multimedia character, Cobra Commander is a great choice for the main page.
