There is nothing new under the sun. It has all been done before.
The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again. So Lucy Liu is playing Watson (not making this up, I swear) right? Do we know who's playing Holmes?
Johnny Lee Miller.
"Doctor Who means never having to say you're kidding." - BocajOh, come on. We all know Morgan Freeman is going to play Holmes.
Actually......that would be brilliant.

Morgan Freeman is more suited to the older more thoughtful dignified take on Homes but otherwise I can't see any reason why he couldn't pull the role off.

hashtagsarestupidI still think that they should have picked Eva Green as Holmes and Lucy Liu as Watson. But the current cast is decent. I'm far more worried about the writing. Have they released any info on the storyline of the pilot yet?
I would imagine the pilot is adapted from A Study in Scarlett.
I'm a little leery of the casting for Waston. The last couple of adaptations have returned to the "actually really useful" character of the originals, but if they make Watson, well, The Watson, just asking lots of questions, just in time to be played by a woman... well. Hopefully not.
They should really have made Holmes female too. Failing that, Moriaty.
He's the Doctor. He could be anywhere in time and space.I really hope they don't make Holmes and Watson a couple. I also hope they don't make anything of Watson being Asian or female at all*.
"Doctor Who means never having to say you're kidding." - BocajI'm fairly optimistic. Liu's went through a rough patch for a while, but she's been killing it as a regular on Southland this season, and Johnny Lee Miller is my TV boyfriend so there's no problems there. They're both fairly inventive actors — Liu, in particular, was doing a lot of ab libbing last I saw, and was funny too.

This is a legendarily bad idea in the history of bad ideas.
I just think we're so oversaturated with crime-fighting savants that this one won't make a splash.
I'm a skeptical squirrelMeh, I can't see any harm. If it's good it's good. If it's bad it will sink without a trace and be replace with something else and better.
hashtagsarestupidSo this show was picked up. According to the good people at Television Without Pity, it was one of only four new shows presented at the CBS upfronts (not counting the midseason shows).

Okay, a few things:
1) "To show that we're totally different from Sherlock, we've murdered Amy Pond in the first episode."
3) I didn't realise until now who Johnny Lee Miller was.
That was a good show.
3) Mexican Lestrade?
4) Okay, so they've actually made an effort to have the backstory be a bit different. I like that.
5) Still WT Fing at Lucy Liu's casting.
It's not over. Not yet.This Sherlock's not a pompous ass. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
Meh, I'll watch it. It could be fun.
Fear is a superpower. The scarf has got to go. Okay?
I'm a skeptical squirrel@Medicus Honestly, Lucy Liu's casting is the only reason I haven't written this off completely yet.
Meh. I don't really see anything from the teaser that distinguishes this from the plethora of other US crimes shows. Looks decent, but it needs to be spectacular to avoid getting crucified.
I do like that Holmes actually seems to be a nice guy for once though.
So they have Sherlock as sort of an Adrian Monk Lite? I can work with that.
Posting from the shallow end of the pool: Lucy Liu stil looks fantastic.
Trump delenda estHas this allready been broadcasted?
hashtagsarestupidNo, I was remarking on the preview trailer.
Trump delenda estpeople trailers always lie.

Here's a thread for discussion of CBS's modern Sherlock Holmes series Elementary. They may not have filmed the pilot yet, but as the last several pages of the Sherlock thread show, there's plenty to talk about.
