Kitty Kotty herself!
"Kicia Kocia" (often translated as "Kitty Kotty" in English) is a highly popular Polish book series written and illustrated by Anita Głowińska. The series is primarily aimed at toddlers. It boasts over 70 titles in the series of short stories, sold over 3 million copies in the year 2022. In recent years Kitty Kotty has become a pop culture phenomenon in Poland, with some international releases as well.

The books follow the slice-of-life adventures of a small, cute kitten named Kicia Kocia, her parents, younger brother Niuniuś, and her best friend, Pacek.

There is also an animated series created by Ego Film, and the theatrical release of episode compilations became a hit among younger viewers, setting record numbers for Polish animated releases.

The pilot alone has over 12 million viewers on youtube,

This book series provides examples of:

  • Comically Missing the Point: When Kitty Kotty gets stuck in a tree and is crying, scared, Pacek tries to cheer her up by assuring her that he will eat her ice cream so it won't go to waste.
  • Constantly Curious: Part of Kitty Kotty appeal is that whenever she discovers something new she want to learn everything about it.
  • Cute Kitten: The protagonist of course.
  • Fantasy Sequence: Entire "Kitty Kotty in space" (both the book and its animated adaptation) takes place in Kitty Kotty's imagination.
  • Genki Girl: Kitty Kotty is very energetic and adventurous.
  • Full-Name Basis: Kitty Kotty is always referred to by her both names, with very rare exceptions of being simply called 'Kitty'.
  • Fury-Fueled Foolishness: While Kitty Kotty is usually a Cheerful Child, Głowińska still depicts her realistically, with quite a few stories focusing on Kitty Kotty throwing a tantrum over something a small child would, however they usualy lead to bad decissions. Examples include trying to run away when her mom refuses to buy her what she wants and geting lost in the shop, or when Kitty Kotty gets angry that her neighbor, who she was told is a firefighter, comes to visits her, dressed 'normal' and she refuses to belive he is a real fireman. She runs away feeling cheated and ends up stuck in a tree.
  • Hates Being Called Cute: In one episode Kitty Kotty gets offended when a boy calls her a 'Princess'.
  • Talking Animal: Obviously. It's interesting to point out that only Kitty Kotty and Pacek's family are talking animals. All other families are human and we never see talking cats aside for Kitty Kotty's relatives and Pacek's parents.
  • Toy-Based Characterization: Kitty Kotty's two favorite toys are a doll Policeman and a stuffed Crocodile, showing that Kitty Kotty is much more tomboyish than the first impression lets us believe.
