Also, as for the manga, wow Yao's seriously a klutz. I'm not really sure at this point if it's connected to her self-esteem issues or anything, but I'm surprised she's managed to even live this long.
Welp, the Beautiful Zombies issue is finally resolved, though has anyone noticed something off with Leilei? ;)
Also, the second cour's first episode is out and... Yeah, the spanking. I'm surprised that the production got away with the curtains, but I suppose it's an easy way to cover things up with Zorzal and Tyule.
I feel like the zombie thing got resolved too abruptly. I have a "oh, that's it?" sort of feeling about the whole thing.
Oh hey, it looks like they skipped the zombies and went straight to Rondel in the anime. While it does feel like a sidetrip, it contained important development for our dark elf companion AND contains an important plot point that would be used later on. That is to say, Leilei's brush with death brings her to Hardy's attention, which eventually ends up with her gaining the ability to open minor gates on her own.
Yeah they skipped where the manga translations are right now. lol

I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.Poor, poor "Sugawara-sama", being pinned between an amorous loli (who, I think deliberately, speaks in a way that can easily be misinterpreted) and his Earth-ly decency.
As I've said last Sept 2015, there would be a focus on Foreign Ministry guy.
I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.Yeah, she's almost certainly screwing with him, that little troll.
(...not that way!)
Somehow I found Arpeggio's hair returning to their normal messiness moments after she tried to preen them up incredibly funny.
Also, for whatever reason the written language of "Special Area" makes me think of ancient Persian cuneiform... I wonder, did Lelei program it into her laptop? I somehow doubt that locals can read in any of Earth's languages, yet both Arpeggio and Mimoza could instantly understand - or at least read - what was on the screen.
And, of course, the obligatory scene of the Girls asserting their stake of Itami.
Ahem... Rory, did you really need to include "no world-destroying spells" into the rules? On the second thought...
Arpeggio is hysterically awesome, she should just join harem unit her skills will be useful both in fight and finding resources.
Can't confirm it myself, but whole zombie thingy was supposedly manga original content.
Arpeggio is a pretty good mage all things considered, just horribly overshadowed by her sister.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.
Leilei's had the good fortune to be in the right place in the right time, though some people say having good luck is still a skill. ;) Regardless, Arpeggio's been toiling around in the academia in what looks like the usual way for a non-adventuring wizard to advance in standing.
Yeah, while Leilei certainly does have an aptitude for magic, a lot of her rapid progress is due to her learning actual physics and using magic to manipulate that, rather than trying to manipulate some made up system that doesn't even exist, which no doubt uses even more magic power to make that system exist before manipulating it

On the other hand her ability to assimilate that new knowledge and apply it effectively in a relatively short space of time is clearly a sign of her skill and intelligence.
And I think its a bit of the case of the right person, right time. A genuine prodigy who just happened to come across a fundamentally game changing discovery.
Who's to say that system "doesn't exist" though? On that side of the gate, magic could be as fundamental as the laws of physics (or could pretty much be treated as additional laws of physics). Whether the mages actually understand it as well as they think is another question, admittedly.
What I was specifically referring to was when Cato brought up the example of combustion. They believed in phlogiston, which was an actual theory up until the 18th century. Since everyone can clearly breathe normally and the JSDF's weapons and vehicles all function properly, phlogiston clearly is still de-bunked on this side of the gate. So, my theory is that rather than just using a bit of magic to compress and ignite oxygen and hydrogen to create an explosion, the mages are actually using more magic to create phlogiston, which behaves in the manner that they believe it should. They have all these flawed and outdated theories of physics and chemistry, but since they have magic, as opposed to our world where trying to do something the wrong way simply doesn't work, they use magic to make the wrong way work, which obviously would take more energy than simply doing it the right way.
I think we can all agree that they're right, Sherry IS the most dangerous person in that house. Despite being so young, she knows what political or emotional buttons to push, and she's just twelve! She's going to be someone everyone will have to watch as she grows up.
... Of course, this is providing Sugawara survives the experience of the next four years. XD
In any case, the die is cast, lines have been drawn, and what will Japan and the Empire do after this bit of asylum-claiming?
EDIT: Oh and Aohige clarified that the Zombie chapter from the manga was actually from Gaiden book FIVE. It was just inserted in the manga before the group met Arpeggio because that was where it is placed chronologically.

They're may be no such thing as truly objective journalism but you can at least try and keep fact and opinion separate.
Also I don't get what was up with the government guys this episode. It's one thing to not get involved in a burgeoning civil war, but I would argue that failure to protect one's diplomats is more likely to get one criticised than intervening to protect them. Nor do I follow the leap of logic from "evacuate or secure the embassy" to "just take over the capital".
Wait? 4 days passed since the last episode already? Anime makes a poor job of showing that: if not for the certain bit of dialogue, one could have easily thought that there is at most a single days between ep. 9 and ep. 10.
That guess was too on spot... Is Itami developing a sixth sense or something? Also, even if that old man's research was stolen, attacking anyone in any way without a proof that it was them who did the stealing would be a crime. Which one - that depends on how he goes about it, but still... Also, wouldn't public humiliation of the chief be better than driving a dagger through their skull?
I half expected Itami to pull a laptop and a projector and show these mages how proper presentations are done. Also, SDF + magic = TSAB?
And we get to see JSDF doing something in the next episode - unless it somehow takes them an entire episode to reach the Empire's capital...

Someone had a look at Japanese (and Korean) reactions to this anime online.
Fun times.

So I hear the series has officially Overtook the Manga at this point?
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Yeah, the manga has only just introduced Lelei's sister. Although I wouldn't quite call it Overtook the Manga, since both are based on a series of light novels, which are themselves based on a web novel.

Wrong. They're based on five traditional novels, which were THEN rewritten into ten light novels. The novels (and manga) were likewise based on a one-shot webnovel.
The cast for the second season has been updated. Rina Hidaka will play Sherry, and Katsuyuki Konishi will play the infamous Zorzal.
