"Oh, yeah. Thanks for the advice." Nate dug into his bag and pulled out a pair of leather gloves, the squirrel moving to rest against his neck. It occured to him he should dump this stuff in his room, but he was enjoying his conversation with Zavi. "School gave me these after they got tired of healing all my scratches and bites. Still haven't got healing magic sussed out yet."
they/them || "Forgive me, regent of queer amphibians" - Lt.BGobReitt listens in, leaning against a wall. There were so many people there, it seemed like this could be a school all by itself, with no accounting for the upperclassmen.
Brendan leaned back where he sat. He wasn't a first-year, he was just looking after the boy, but the initiation had always been interesting to him.
"Well, medicine is hard. And getting FDA approval for healing spells is impossible I hear. Doesn't help that the factors of patient and healer effect spells so much. I mean, I looked into transforming people into being healthy, but people's bodies will still undo the spell before actually healing."
You must agree, my plan is sheer elegance in its simplicity! My TumblrWhen the teacher appeared, Marcus was just reading the mind of someone in the front. "Ow, his ears...", he thought while leaving that guys mind alone and listening to the teacher.
"Tell me about it. I've had to get a special permit and parental permission before I can even look at the magical beasts we've got here." Never mind he was making friends with them since before he could walk. "Still, there's this one spell I have. Doesn't get rid of wounds and pain, but dulls them, makes you feel happy. If I can work from that... But, anyway, how about you? Taking anything interesting this year?"

Kaleb stepped off the bus in front of the Magical Academy. He adjusted the strap of his duffel bag, then switched ears so he could hear his mother better. The cell phone signal seemed to be cutting in an out. āYeahā¦Uh huhā¦Ye- Noā¦I just got here. Yes, mom, Iāll be fine. *sigh* Sure. Hey sis. No, I donāt plan on itā¦How th-ā The new transfer student facepalmed. As he held his hand on his face, he muttered into the phone, āI donāt think it works that way, Cassā¦ They use wands and paint. Iām sure youād love it.ā He swiped his hand up, brushing his hair back. āNah. Justā¦I dunno, tell her that Iāll be fine and that I love all you guys. Heh. Yeah, I said it-ā
*beep beep beep*
Kaleb glanced down at his phone after it went silent. The call had been dropped.
The auditorium
Kaleb glanced around as the faculty member announced that everyone pay attention. He wasnāt quite sure whether he should consider himself a first-year or not, but he thought heād hedge his bets since it was, technically, his first year attending school. He saw several students introducing themselves, and/or getting reacquainted with one another.
I might like it here, he thought.
Give the world the best you have and you will get kicked in the teeth. Give the world the best you have anyway."Mr. Brandan, just let me say one thing before the teacher starts... Thank you for your hospitality. I know we just met, but you are one of the first people I ever talked to besides my mother... And father."
Brendan could clearly see Alexander's constant smile almost being replaced by a frown.
Sammy rummaged in her bag and pulled out a book on telekinesis, her specialist magic. "Ooh, it's all so exciting!" she squealed.
The teacher, noticing that everyone is paying attention, starts the initiation speech. It's a long one, about learning the true potential of your powers, and how the people with powers received a gift that shouldn't be wasted. But eventually, she got to the good part of the ceremony. She started to call up students, and created a rune on each of the student's palms. The rune turned into various colors, and the teacher would call out a type of magic based on the color. This was standard practice for finding a student's inate magic, as well as assigning classes based on it. This will most likely go on for a while. The teacher probably won't notice if the students start talking.

Blue Pacific, signing off..."Not sure," Zavi shrugged and scratched the back of his head, "I haven't actually properly registered yet. Definitely some transformation classes, though I might add a class on enchantment or something. My aim for the year is to enchant myself with a permanent triggered transformation. I think it would be neat, and I'd only be the twelfth or so to achieve it."
You must agree, my plan is sheer elegance in its simplicity! My Tumblr"Wow, that's amazing!" Nate said sincerely. The most he was aiming for this year was decent grades. Well, that and finally being able to make contact with a phoenix. The only bird that had so far eluded him. "What transformation are you thinking of?"
they/them || "Forgive me, regent of queer amphibians" - Lt.BGob"Probably a cat of some sort. I like cats. I might look into a bird, but they're more complicated. And if I don't get it right, I'll end up in more trouble. With the second lungs, hollow bones and stuff."
Edit: Zavi and Nate are outside, not in the auditorium.

Brendan's reply was cut off by the initiation, but he kept it in his head.
I'll make sure you have plenty of friends here.
"Probably the smart thing to do, starting simple. Having wings must be great though." The squirrel he had decided to dub Len for the moment crawled down his arm, giving him a chance to start petting it again. He wondered how many animals there were now in comparison to last year. He had a spell to check, but it wouldn't work with all the students around. Speaking of which... "Looked like there were a lot of first years, don't you think? There were barely half as much kids when I first came here."
they/them || "Forgive me, regent of queer amphibians" - Lt.BGobBefore long, the teacher calls out "Alexander Solano!"
Blue Pacific, signing off..."Here!"
Alexander quickly gets up and, almost containing himself, walks towards the teacher, his smile never fading away.
"Good luck," Brendan muttered to his friend as he passed.
The teacher writes the rune on Alexander's hand. After a small amount of time, it changes from Gold to a Teal color.
Teacher: Aquamancy!
Blue Pacific, signing off...Letting out only a small "wow", Alexander was, again, containing his true excitement. He waited for a few seconds before thanking the teacher and returning to his seat, focusing only on his hand.
"Wooow. Isn't it great? Aquamancy!"
Brendan laughed. "Good job, little friend!" He gave Alexander a light pat on the back.
"Really, his whole mind basically screams "Aquamancy" and they still need that circle to find out? Why donĀ“t they simply use a mentalist?", Marcus asked himself, waiting for his name to be called.
"Gretchen von Goethe!" the teacher shouts after a few minutes.

Taurin is standing among the assembled crowd, the arcane micro-bull by his feet, when he suddenly hears someone clearing their throat, possibly with volume enhancement. He looks around and sees the teacher the noise came from and listens.
