The situation - as I understand it, pieced together from various Retsutalks and such - is that Dark Syde Phil is a popular YouTube/Twitch Let's Play-er that has something of an ego problem. Basically, his entire shtick is that nothing, nothing, is ever his own fault. If he's doing badly in a game, it's the other player's fault. If it's single-player so there isn't another player, then it's the game's fault. On top of that, he'll struggle with even the most basic of tasks in a video game, but blame it on the game instead of his own ineptitude. It's hard to tell whether this is an act or genuine, and honestly I don't care to hazard a guess - presumably, though, enough people like the schtick that he's attracted quite a following.
As an illustration of what I'm talking about, I've been told this annotated video of his Metal Gear Solid 3 playthrough is riddled with examples. (I admittedly haven't watched it yet, despite it being out for, like, a year or so.) Also, I was informed his unboxing video of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII went on for a good ten or so minutes, and ended without him actually opening the box - the whole point of an unboxing video.
There's also some talk of him being rather ungracious to some people who built him a high-end computer, at their own expense, out of good will - but I forget some of the details and would rather stick to facts than hearsay. Best to avoid libel.
Moon◊He's a Let's Player known for being a douchebag who sucks at games.
Fanfiction I hate.Said douchebag is also bad at taking criticism.
Are you kidding? I've never even heard of that unboxing video. That's like having a murder mystery where the killer, motive, and method are never revealed, and the detective is constantly claiming the mystery to be bugged.

"Monsters are tragic beings. They are born too tall, too strong, too heavy. They are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy."I'm not kidding, but I haven't watched the video myself. Here it is, if you want to give him a click; I couldn't find a reupload anywhere that specifically highlighted it.
Moon◊"Buyer Beware" - in which Jim talks down people saying uninformed buyers deserve what fate befalls them.
Also, Grange Hill intro/credit music, for some reason.
Moon◊I'm dissapointed that, for April Fools day, Jim didn't do the entire thing in a really bad Latin American accent.

Probably because the video didn't come out on April Fools' day.
"An Industry of Pitiful Cowards", in which Jim praises Square Enix for realizing with Bravely Defauly that traditional JRP Gs can still sell, without having to actionize them like they were progressively doing with Final Fantasy. He then goes on to rant about other slighted niches, like horror games, single-player games, or the entire Resident Evil franchise.

Direct all enquiries to Jamie B GoodNot one of his stronger videos, tbqh. It was pretty much another talk about how the big game publishers are set in their ways and the indie-scene has all the creativity and yaddayadayadda.
I don't think his next video is going to be quite so favorable of the indie scene, though. It was going to be about the Ubisoft Watch_Dogs Nexus 7 phone thing, until he happened upon this game for his You Tube channel (warning: video can cause motion sickness), and learned about how scummy the developer was being with its forums and reviews section:
4 in a row. That might be a record for me.
One mistake he made in the video was saying Nintendo patched out a glitch in the Japanese version that made gay relationships possible. They didn't. What Nintendo actually patched out was a data transfer issue between the Nintendo DS and 3DS installments. The gay relationships in question were actually female Miis who look like male Miis, which is still possible to do in the game. I can't count the number of times people made that mistake.

^^Thats actually video in general about apologies made with excuse of addressing that. Assuming I understood it right
Wow ._. You can see that is too intentionally bad to be mistaken for accident.
Doesn't really make it better though since dev is still charging money for it even if its to prove the point that Steam allows shitty games to get in steam shop before they remove them
I never understand it when internet personalities get into fights. Why are they slamming this other guy? Never heard of him.
