Makes sense - it's come up in several of his Greenlight videos recently.

More like an outerview with all that question dodging.
Short answer: "Our company is in the business of making tools, not games. I don't really give two shits what you do with our tools after you buy them. Whether you make Goat Simulator or Slaughtering Grounds is on you."
Which is entirely fair. The flood of asset packs and poorly made games on Steam isn't Unity's problem. If you buy some fertilizer from Walmart and make a bomb out of it, that's not Walmart's fault. Their involvement in your activity ended the moment you walked out of the store with your purchase.
These asset packs are a product and Unity is selling that product. They are under no obligation to ensure that their customers only make quality games out of them. Frankly, between Unity selling the packs, customers buying the packs and reselling them as games, and Steam's utterly lax quality standards, Unity's the only one involved in this who's actually doing things right and doesn't deserve the third degree over it.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Yeah. They are in the tool making business. It is not exactly the fault if someone does shitty things with their tool, nor is something they could or should prevent. Sure, many, perhaps most, of the shitty games on Steam done in bad faith. But some are just some guy genuinely trying. And some random dude trying to make a game in their spare time is exactly what Unity wants to happen.

Today Jim decides to critcize Amiibo due to poor exeution.
He's absolutely correct as well. I'm not expecting Nintendo to make an overnight fix, but these things have been out for a year now. Nintendo know's full and well how much demand they've had.
He does kinda seem like he is throwing a tantrum though .-.
I agree that Nintendo needs to do something to fix this, but they've actually only been out about half a year.
He still likes the concept, but hates the distribution.
what the fuck just happened
I wonder if only selling the amiibo in bundles could help alleviate the problem. The higher price point makes it harder for scalpers to hog them, and since they don't have to focus on a single figure, they can restock them more efficiently by just focusing on groups of amiibo. The Chibi-Robo amiibo, for instance, can only be obtained in a bundle with the game.
I thought maybe when the Smash Bros line finally ends, it won't be too bad. The problem was there are going to be, what, over 50 unique figures for EVERY character? While it will help if any old I Ps start making new titles, there are just too many being released at once.
At least for Splatoon there are only 3. But yet they're still getting sold out? Seriously?
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!Did I hallucinate that ending, or.
That's not the part I was talking about!
I mean, for fuck's sake, Jim actually has eyes!

"#Thinly Veiled Contempt" might actually be my favorite tag.

That's kinda funny.
Jim actually likes a horror game. It can be done.
I've seen a few sites give it bad reviews.
I think those sites can jump off a bridge based on that video.

- Video games are made.
- Jim Sterling discusses video games.
- A video game is made about Jim Sterling discussing video games.
- Jim Sterling discusses the video game about Jim Sterling discussing video games.
All that's left is for the video game about Jim Sterling discussing video games to include a DLC about Jim Sterling discussing the video game about Jim Sterling discussing video games, and then the Jim singularity will be complete.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Another meltdown... NYARLATHOTEEEEEP!!!
This time, some positivity.
If you can't access the video, he's talking about how Unity is actually a great engine in spite of the games he's covered, and actually blames Steam for those asset flips more than Unity itself.
Direct all enquiries to Jamie B GoodUnity doesn't make bad games, people make bad games. If you check out Unity's website they actually showcase ambitious and great games using it.
That's closer to blaming the right people. Steam shouldn't be allowing people to flip assets like this. Then again, with things like Greenlight, a lot of responsibility is also on the shoulders of the people who vote for things. Jim's expressed a lot of disdain at Steam in the past for the Unit Z flip that actually got approved through Greenlight, but getting approved means enough people voted for a Unit Z asset flip.
So, in all, I'd say the chain of responsibility goes
- People who flip assets.
- People who vote for things that are asset flips.
- Steam's lack of quality control.
And never Unity.
EDIT: ...I just got the punny name in Unit Z.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I mean, you can't honestly expect everyone to know what these pre-built packages are so as to downvote them... they'd have gotten away with it if it wasn't the case that several other people wound up having the same idea.
Also, did Jim take down an Early Access video recently? There was one on a survival game set in a world with dinosaurs and stuff, highlighting him acquiring human feces for whatever reason, but I can't see it anymore. It was up as recently as Saturday...

Today's class is lazy devs mashing random assets, copying other people's work, and putting them for purchase.
