Drew Karpyshyn leaves BioWare

Dang it, I was a fan of Drew Karpshyn's writing for the series. Where will this series go now that EA has their hands all over Bioware?

He hadn't had much of a hand in Mass Effect since the first game. And frankly his Mass Effect and Star Wars novels are average at best. He isn't a huge loss.

On one hand, I do like his novels, on the other hand, I want him to keep writing for Bioware...damn...

Good riddance. He can write a decent game script, but his novels are trash. One does not translate well to another.

I can appreciate his work on Knights of the Old Republic, but when it comes to sharing a universe with other people, I can't stand it.

When he's writing his own thing, it's fine. When he is adapting something else (Darth Bane), or continuing something that has had multiple authors (Knights of the Old Republic 2), he has no respect for other people's contributions.

Karpyshyn did ME 2, not ME 1 , I believe. He also did KOTOR and SWTOR, which is why SWTOR and Revan shits all over Kreia and KOTOR 2.

According to Wikipedia Drew did both ME 1 and ME 2 but he cowrote ME 2 with Mac Walters.

Drew did ME 1. Mac Walters did ME 2 with Drew as a co writer.

So an obvious plot twist beats a well-written character? Whatever, man. I also find it rather rude that Drew retconned the everloving hell out of KOTOR 2, the game he didn't write, just because Lucas doesn't like morally grey things.

My understanding is that SWTOR shits all over both KOTOR 1 *and* 2, by having the leads of both basically die randomly and horribly, failing to actually achieve anything. . .

The accusation against Karpyshyn is that he retconned away the events of KOTOR 2. This is not true. Karpyshyn was clearly scared shitless when writing Revan of pissing off KOTOR 2 fans, hence why the summary of KOTOR 2's plot is delivered by Bastilla, who only knows the basic details and why the Exile has no personality.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Jaf just means SWTOR and 'Revan' (the novel) retcon Kotor 2's major elements not that they are so much better than Kotor 2.

To be fair. He's "shit" on a lot of his own work too in To R. I mean. what about Revan trying to defeat the sith via a hilariously huge genocide of imperial citizens via HK droids. Or the fact Bastila Shan was put into the Noetikon of dark side knowledge because she was a sith for all of 2-3 days tops

I think this is more than enough closure on whether or not he was a good writer for ME.

I didn't like his novels but I loved his games. I grew up with KOTOR.
