I guess I'll pick it up when I have money. Been meaning to look into the Tales series.

Did they do voiceovers for the optional scenes and/or instate a Japanese voice track? Because if they did, it's one more reason to start letting the 3DS win me over...

If I cannot look at the 3D function of the 3DS for more than two minutes in a shop without my eyes screaming, nooooo!!!!, then this is another game I will not be buying. If you turn the 3D off, all you are left with is a DS, and I have one of those already.

No, your not. the 3DS is considerably stronger then a normal DS. Something like Resident Evil:Revelations couldn't be done on a normal DS.

[up][up][up]The DS has a Gyroscope? Since when?

Yeah, I never got the "I already have a DS" argument. Yeah, you do, but for how much longer are you going to get new games for it? If you want to continue playing new Nintendo handheld games, you'll need a 3DS eventually. And the 3DS without 3D is still a very impressive little machine.

Picked up my pre-order yesterday and I am LOVING this game. The characters are great and the battle system is really fun. I just finished beating Arietta at Choral Castle. I lost the first time, then changed up my strategy a bit and finally beat it. I also exhausted my items fighting Sword Dancer. I'm assuming this is part of a larger sidequest for a really good sword.

Who says anything about buying new games? I go retro. Strip away the 3D functionality which is the 3DS's unique selling point and you are left with something a bit more advanced than my fat old first generation silver and black number, that is true, but I do not consider the advances enough to sink money on a hand held console that would buy me a new ps3 slim, or a 4 gb X Box 360.

I kept hearing about how difficult the first battle with Arietta was, but it wasn't really that difficult. I pretty much just had everyone rush each adversary one at a time, and I didn't have too much trouble. Sword Dancer I decided to give a wide berth. That had Bonus Boss written all over it, so I decided to leave it for later.

This is my first Tales game, as well as my first real-time battle RPG. It's a bit harder to keep track of everything going on in the battles, but I'm finding it surprisingly fun so far. I was afraid that, freed from the degree of control turn-based combat has, the AI would go all Leeroy Jenkins on the enemies.

Just a warning about Sword Dancer. He dissapears after a certain point. If you want to fight him but think you are too weak to beat him as soon as he is available, do it when you return to the continent with Chorral Castle.

That's all good and well for you, but I was speaking in a more general sense. For someone like me, who got more mileage out of the DS than any other console, I'd be left in the dust without the 3DS.

Bit the bullet and bought a 3DS today along with a copy of Abyss. My regular DS had a charger with a frayed wire and they don't make replacements anymore, so I figured it was time for an upgrade.

I've got Tales Of The Abyss too, though in 2011 already. I've already played as far as to have Asch replacing Luke in my party, Guy has left for Luke and now I have to go to Ortion Cavern on Radessian. I have to say, I really like this game. ^^ The graphics are pretty good, the 3D-effect looks nice (even though I keep it off most of the time) and the music's very awesome. :) The characters are also very cool, though there was one point I wished the writers could've done better. You'll know what I mean when you get there.

Having played the game before, what do you mean?

[up] I mean the point where Van destroys Akzeriuth by using Luke, and instead that the other party-members are concentrating their whole hate on Van for giving Luke definitely false hopes and lies, they treat Luke like a monster and rebuke him for keeping secrets, not even thinking of how they too are guilty of keeping things secret from each other. He even tried to make the fact clear that he was clearly betrayed by Van, but no...

Honestly, I think there would've been a much more galant method for solving this.

Just started playing. They removed the spoiler from the Records section of the menu.

Loading screens are much, much shorter than the original. That alone makes this worth buying.

So... I just got past the events of Akzeriuth and just ended today's play session in Daath. DAMN. Luke's new haircut is pretty snazzy, though. And Guy is a bro among bros.

The Dual Boss battle with Sync and Largo just gave me my first game over. I really suck at blocking, if only the defend button was adjactant to the attack button instead of opposite it.

I actually didn't have too much trouble with that boss. I was surprised.

The boss fights against more than one foe are some of the best in Tales of the Abyss (really some of the best in Tales period)

Taking a break from FE1, for the FE8 draft instead

IMO the Six God Generals are by far the most intelligent villains I've seen in gaming merely because of their tendency to gang up on you.

Also, I love how "Part 2" of the game is set-up. Luke is damn near comatose from the recent revelation of his true identity, his teammates have all but abandoned him for being a brat and not owning up to at least partial responsibility for what he did, and Asch has seemingly usurped his position in the group. Then once he wakes up and speaks to Tear, he develops the resolve to atone for his actions and become a better person. Once they're on their way back to the Outer World, they meet up with Guy, who reaffirms his friendship and loyalty to Luke, and they're on their way. Cue new battle theme, which perfectly matches up with the darker turn the game has taken. Badass. Whereas "The Arrow was Shot" is a more bouncy, adventurous theme for the relatively easygoing first portion of the game, "The Edge of a Decision" is almost like representation of Luke's new found determination and the escalation of the party's dilemma as they rush to prevent the impending war.
