It's almost like someone stuck this image here by accident. I don't see anything here that even remotely relates to a church.

I see an altar and a church organ, though.

How does that illustrate this definition:

Not all religions in fiction are corrupt, nefarious, or downright evil. Some of them are actually Always Lawful Good and Neutral Good examples of The Church that are quite honestly interested in the saving of souls, promoting spiritual growth, and are generally shown to be simply, purely, Good, as is the Big Guy upstairs.

The previous IP thread didn't produce anything better...without being able to look at the suggestion right now, I doubt we're gonna do much better this time around. I don't really mind the current pic.

Because there's an air of genuine benevolence in the pic I suggested, and it's obvious that it's a church. The current pic has very little emphasis on the "church" aspect.

Hmm need to find a good pic of Dragon Quest's church, maybe even saving your game at the priest.

[up][up] I see happy figures with halos, an organ, angels, a priest, and an altar...that gets the trope across clearly enough for me right now. It'll be a few hours before I can look at any suggestions.

Sure there are some church-y elements but they're not immediately obvious. The pic looks like it should belong on one the various cuteness tropes.

I'd really rather nothing from Christianity be used considering their support of paedophilia and the frequent human rights violations. Real world religions should not be used for this trope.

That said, I like the current one. There's statues with halos. There's an organ. There's a nun. There's an altar. There's a couple of things in priest hats. Looks like a church to me.

Every religion has their skeletons in the closet. Please don't start a flame war.

And considering that churches ARE Christian, there's really no way to NOT use a Christianity pic.

There are other religions that have churches other than Christianity. Not all the examples are Christian. Pelor and the Way Of The Prophets aren't. I would rather a media example. Not something from a real world religion.

Generally, when you think of "church", you think "Christian". Same as when you think of "synagogue", you think of Judaism, mosque = Islam, and so forth.

We should keep this simple, straightforward, and obvious. Nothing too obscure or abstract. The page pic should obviously be a church (from whatever religion) and obviously be good.

But as that's not what the trope is about, as the trope can be from any religion then we should avoid Christian related images so that people don't think the trope is only about Christianity because the trope certainly is not.

[up]I really don't see that happening. I think you're just biased.

You're the one insisting that this trope requires an image from one religion. Not me. I'm just saying No Real Life Examples.

Any of the religious tropes involve real life, since religion is a real-life thing. Going by that logic, we should take down the current pic since it's based on a real-life religion.

The pic I suggested is a painting, not a photograph, so I don't understand how you can make that argument against it.

Also this thread is getting dangerously heated so this will be my last post until we get input from others.

The current image is from a video game where the religion has nothing to do with Christianity other than clothing. There are inhuman beings running the church. That's enough of an abstraction that people aren't going to look at it and start flame wars about real world religions.

Yours is a piece of art that belongs to a real world religion. Not media. Not something fictional. Something that drags real world baggage into the trope that we're trying very hard to keep out because it does start flame wars.

I should probably point out that there are real-life examples.

Yes I know I said that would be my last post...I can never abide by that.

We're had to clear quite a few flame wars out of the Real Life examples on this page. It's barely holding on those examples as it is.

As it stands, the examples are skewed towards Christianity despite the fact that media shows all sorts of religions this way. I do not support any real life religion having the main page and I would much prefer something that would encourage more diversity of examples.

Look, all I want here is a page image that screams "this is a church and it is good". The current pic doesn't do that at all for me. It has nothing to do with trying to push any one religion on anyone. I'm non-religious.

Suggest an image that shows a shred of the trope.
