Wow, is Final Fantasy XIV that bad?

[up] Yes. The game was released in what appears to be its beta stage. It's very similar to Sonic 06 in that regard.

[up][up] That's very true. However after the lukewarm response 13 got they should probably have been a bit more careful with the next game in the series.

[up] Didn't they fire someone too?

Damn, that's pretty disappointing to hear. Well, at least they're actually bothering to fix it...

I actually liked Final Fantasy 13.

From everything I've heard FF 14 is a Final Fantasy game without any Final Fantasy elements.

Oh, and in the age of World Of Warcraft, which could have more non-combat "virtual world" elements, this is a game were fisherman is a class and the Unfun Fishing Minigame is how you commit to spending your time.

Granted, this is very old intel I'm familiar with.

I just tend to ignore the less... lucid members of the fanbase. The majority of the FF fandom has been warring with each other since VI and VII. You'd think by now that they'd be able to comprehend that since most games aren't direct sequels, although the basic gameplay structure is the more or less unchanged, this gives Squeenix some leeway to experiment. Apparently, I was wrong.

I actually liked Final Fantasy 13.
Me too, although I have to say that my expectations of modern Final Fantasy games are much different (and in many ways lower) than of older ones.

I laughed so hard when I got to XIV on the list. evil grin

In any event, I had no complaints about 13, personally...

Oh hell yeah, vocal hatedom, by the way they talk about it, you'd think the game murdered all their friends.

The article decries Final Fantasy VII for being sci-fisih, but it says that Final Fantasy IX is bad for not having sci-fi elements?

[up] I think they were just using it as an example. Basically they didn't like the scifi stuff but they still wanted something other than generic Fantasy fare. I'm guessing something along the line of 6's steampunk would have appealed to them.

FF 3 (remake) ftw

it is, hands down, the most fun ive ever had with a final fantasy game (main series away)

im honestly kinda surprised anyone complained about the ff10 battle system. i guess some people really do love that horrid atb system huh?

also, i was kind of disappointed it never got into the side games or direct sequels.

also: regarding the contradiction thing- judging from the article they apparantly did a survey and then made a little paragraph encompassing all the general faults or praises people had for each game. its the personal take paragraphs where, if he had decried the steampunk, and then decried the lack of steampunk, it would actually have been contradictory. i do wish it was more obvious though because the general attitude of the fault paragraphs kinda threw me untill i realised its a sum up.

The best/worst entries were supposed to be summarizations of how the fans/haters felt, not the writer. And I can vouch for there being people that dislike the sci-fi trappings of VII on, and there being different people that dislike IX not having them

At least they actually had a way to listen to the greatest music in the series. (Yes, I am referring to Clash on the Big Bridge. There is no other FF music that can challenge it - indeed, IMO, only the music to Doomsday Zone can even match it.
