In answer to your last question, no, the "child" is not intended to be a literal child.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.That's because they're all the same woman. It's from a film, The Three Faces of Eve.
Good lord, what a severely misused trope this is. It doesn't help that it's full of mystical vagueness and mumbo-jumbo. The Three Faces of Adam is just awful.
I can't think of how we'll find a better image. The characters should clearly be from the same universe, which probably means they need to be found in the same frame—but they also need to be overtly expressing their "face".
You cant even make out the faces in that small thing and they dont quite look the trope.
Hmm lets see from the examples.... [1]◊ [2]◊ [3]◊
Change 123 has the same split personality aspect as the tropenamer

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Far left one is definitely seductress, and...well...I'm guessing the middle one is supposed to be matronly? The right one is child? It's not really apparent, except sort of by hairstyle.
Hm...the first one of yours could work, though.

I guess its hard to tell the one on the right is the child there damn. Uploaded number 1
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!
That's okay...leagues better than the current, at any rate.
I think really all it's missing is a clear "mother". By process of elimination it's obvious who it is, but she doesn't look terribly motherly. She's modestly, normally dressed, with a modest, normal (for anime, anyway) haircut, but that's really it. Still, I definitely wouldn't object.
The Seductress and Child aspects are beautifully illustrated. I also wish the "Mother" was a a better illustration. But getting two out of the three is miles better than what we have now, which doesn't really show any of them well.
Although...
On re-reading the page, the "mother" doesn't have to be "maternal" as much as she's "sensible and stable". Which she does look like, more than somewhat.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.It is a good illustration of the three and it is better than what we have now. It's clear at a glance which one is which and I agree, the third one does look sensible and stable compared to the other two.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI agree.
Yeah, Raso's image isn't perfect, but it's way better than what's up there now.
Reaction Image RepositoryIt's far from perfect, but it's the best of what's been suggested.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickShould it be shrunk down a little? It would still be clear even if it were smaller.
It could probably come down to 300 px or 275 and still get the job done.
A shrink likely wouldn't hurt it terribly.
Fight smart, not fair.Yeah, odd. It's more effective at the smaller size.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I think it's easier to see it all at a glance. Smaller version is much nicer.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI don't see a matron in there at all. And it is yet another anime image.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyAlmost no distinction between the maiden and the mother.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickEddie, it's not Matron. That's The Hecate Sisters.
"Mother" in Three Faces of Eve is Stable and Sensible, as opposed to the "Child"'s Flighty and Innocent and the "Seductress"'s Sexual and Independent
And dismissing it as "yet another anime image" is seems awfully shortsighted. It's an excellent illustration of two of the three and a decent image of the third. That makes it a much better page image than the current one; all that one has going for it is that it's not anime.
*** The poster for the movie is better than the current one, but I don't think it's as much better as Raso's suggestion.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.
Crown Description:
IMPORTANT: The image should show the 3 different character types that form the trope.- Type 1: Childlike, innocent, naive
- Type 2: Wise, calm, steady. The "ideal" wife.
- Type 3: Sexy, seductive, independent
OK, so I can sort of understand that the one on the right is the "wife" archetype (though it doesn't do much to project the "nurturing and wise" characteristics), but I'm not really getting "child" or "seductress" from either of the other two. Isn't the child meant to be a literal child anyway, rather than a grown woman with childlike qualities?
