Obligatory Watchtower and Twist and Shout.
A bit more obscure, Coltrane's version of My Favouirte Things, and The Who's version of Shakin' All Over.
If you don't like a single Frank Ocean song, you have no soul. Also, this:
The video is freakin' adorable too.
Woven Hand taking Bill Wither's classic soul song "Ain't No Sunshine" and turning it into a 14-minute mournful ambient/psychedelic country epic.

They're off the streets now, and back on the road on the riot trail. http://www.last.fm/user/sca_punkedited 6th Feb '12 8:50:27 AM by MetaFour
The smartest idiot you will ever meet.@Erock: But "Twist and Shout" wasn't even that altered. All they did was add the "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAh" part. And sing it IN ONE TAKE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS COLD! I mean, I'm the biggest Beatles fan you'll find, but the only reason that's the definitive version of "Twist and Shout" is because The Beatles are so popular.
I need to think about my answer to the thread question, since there's so many covers I love (and I have at least 1300 unique covers of other songs on my iPod), but a couple I can think of are Joan Jett and the Blackhearts' "Crimson and Clover" (turns a bit of experimental pop psychedelia into psychedelic rock to behold...and was a hit in the 80s), John Lennon's "Do You Want to Dance" (turns a bit of 50s rockabilly into reggae of all things), Tiny Tim's "Livin' in the Sunlight, Lovin' in the Moonlight" (yes, it's a cover; honorable mention to his version of "I Got You Babe", a duet between his high pitched singing and his low pitched singing voices), and Stevie Wonder's "We Can Work it Out" (I can make a whole list of Beatles covers I love—hell, I can make a list of Beatles cover albums I love—but this one is one of the best there is, turning an awesome rock song into an awesome funk song).

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.I haven't heard the original, but the lead vocals on the Beatles version are so good.
If you don't like a single Frank Ocean song, you have no soul. Now, for me it's something of a Guilty Pleasure, not for liking it but for liking it more than it's probably worth (considering all the hate around it...)
This is my favorite cover, and also my favorite song by them (even if I'm not a huge fan).
No regret shall pass over the threshold! The Beatles' "Twist and Shout" does indeed kick ass. Especially the vocals.
Here's one: Led Zeppelin's "Dazed and Confused". Of course many people don't even know it's a cover. Same with "When the Levee Breaks".
no one will notice that I changed thisThe Guns N' Roses cover of Sympathy for the Devil is awesome.
There's also Jeff Buckley's haunting rendition of Hallelujah.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Sufjan Stevens took this and turned it into this.
Yes, I couldn't think of it when I was posting earlier, but that is my favorite as well.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.Personal Jesus as covered by Marilyn Manson and Johnny Cash were at least as good as the original Depeche Mode cut.
Here is proof.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl6fyhZ0G5E for Manson
The Fugees' cover of "Killng Me Softly". It's almost like a cover of a cover, since the second most known version is Roberta Flack's, and she's not the original.
This pop-punk cover of "I Want It That Way" by the Backstreet Boys. They really make it their own, actually.

The smartest idiot you will ever meet."Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash. So good that people forget that Anita Carter recorded it first.
And now for something completely different, I also like Universal Hall Pass' version.
Maybe it's a parody, or it's a country song made into a rap or even pop song. Or it's the acoustic version and you like it better than the original. What's your favorite song that has been altered in some way?
Mine is this rock version of Katy Perry's Who Am I Living For?
