Do you have names to suggest?
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyFar too broad and mark has multiple meanings outside of cons.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickMy example producing brain is on holiday today, evidently. Ignoring the name, do we have more examples? Seems like it would be a common enough con ploy, but I'm not dredging up any in-story examples at the moment.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyI can't even locate a single dictionary that defines the word "napier" as it appears on this page.
I know I've seen it in Leverage several times. I just can't think of exact examples. It tends to be part of coning a con man.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI'll have to dig through my collection of The Saint books. I know that it comes into play at least a couple of times...

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Sean, it is called that way in Cant, but that's a cryptolect. Whoever made the article (it predates YKTTW) probably speaks Cant.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyIt may show up in a truly comprehensive dictionary of slang terms or or a dictionary of underworld slang, but I don't have a searchable copy of Cassell's or Green's handy.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Either way, too obscure for a general readership.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyI think given the state of the trope, it would be good to throw it back to YKTTW.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Nah, the con role is perfectly plain. It just needs a name that will help people find it.
Goal: Clear, Concise and Witty...not to mention examples and wicks?
It's under wickage is the main problem. The name we could do here, but gathering examples is what YKTTW focuses on. Unless we can find a couple of really popular series/works to put it on and it spreads from there. I'm pretty sure we had a three example minimum didn't we?
Fight smart, not fair.Bump. (So what's the decision here?)
I'm not sure this is sufficiently different from The Con Within a Con to be worth a seperate page. Granted, this is a character role instead of a scheme, but it seems to be a role that is always found in The Con Within a Con.
The Con Within a Con also has very little use.
I think we can just merge these two pages, seeing how The Con Within a Con already explains the term.

No. You do not try to get around the TRS limit by hijacking an existing thread.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Edit: Never mind.

Crowner riveted to thread.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.Bumping for more votes.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWell, some people might think it refers to The Joker...
Calling crowner.
Crown Description:
The trope Napier is distinctly unhealthy, having only two examples, not much of a description, five wicks and a single inbound.
Also, the name is (allegedly) some kind of criminal slang, but pretty obscure in normal English; Napier is a not uncommon name for a number of people and a volcano somewhere, but that has nothing to do with the trope.
In an earlier TRS, it was suggested that this be thrown back to YKTTW, but apparently the YKTTW in question was deleted and this page is still here. I think this needs work, although I'm not sure what.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!
