Second!
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Thirding. This trope is not the only sort of ending The Twilight Zone had.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickGreat, rename it. But can we go with Poetic Justice Twist or something? Because every internet article with "ironic' in the title will, in time, grow a section discussing the misuse of the word "ironic."
Well even correctly used, "ironic" is more broad than this trope, so I support your suggestion.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.I like Poetic Justice Twist.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickEh, it uses ironic in exactly the same way as Ironic Hell. Which, BTW, has not had the aforementioned problem. I see no reason not to use Ironic Twist Ending.
Belief or disbelief rests with you.One not leading to it, when so many others do, just means it was lucky. Let's not press that luck.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. There are several kind of irony, the word means various things.
Verbal irony: the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning (similar to sarcasm, but not bitter; sarcasm is a type of verbal irony). Ex: “as pleasant and relaxed as a coiled rattlesnake” (Kurt Vonnegut from Breakfast of Champions).
Dramatic irony: the device of giving the spectator an item of information that at least one of the characters in the narrative is unaware of, thus placing the spectator a step ahead of at least one of the characters. Ex: In Othello, the audience knows that Desdemona has been faithful to Othello, but Othello doesn’t. The audience also knows that Iago is pulling the strings, a fact hidden from Othello, Desdemona, Cassio and Roderigo.
Tragic irony: the words and actions of the characters misrepresent the real situation, which the spectators fully realize. Ex: In the William Shakespeare play Romeo and Juliet, when Romeo finds Juliet in a drugged death-like sleep, he assumes her to be dead and kills himself. Upon awakening to find her dead lover beside her, Juliet kills herself with his dagger.
Situational irony: a discrepancy between the expected result and actual results when enlivened by ‘perverse appropriateness’. Ex: When John Hinckley attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan, all of his shots initially missed the President; however a bullet ricocheted off the bullet-proof Presidential limousine and struck Reagan in the chest. Thus, a vehicle made to protect the President from gunfire was partially responsible for his being shot.
Irony of fate / cosmic irony: stems from the notion that the gods (or the Fates) are amusing themselves by toying with the minds of mortals with deliberate ironic intent. Ex: In O. Henry’s story The Gift of the Magi, a young couple are too poor to buy each other Christmas gifts. The wife cuts off her treasured hair to sell it to a wig-maker for money to buy her husband a chain for his heirloom pocket watch. She’s shocked when she learns he had pawned his watch to buy her a set of combs for her long, beautiful, prized hair.
That is fine.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.@7, actually, Ironic Hell had a fairly recent clean up in the TRS for that sort of misuse.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI concur with Poetic Justice Twist.
To go with the rename of Outer Limits Twist to Cruel Twist Ending, I'd suggest Karmic Twist Ending.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."oooooh!
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Karmic Twist Ending's a great name.
I third that notion, even if it makes me really want a smoothie.
Fourthed.
I agree with a rename, but don't we need a single prop crowner first?

I made a crowner here.
I think Pokedude is right. Generally, a "rename or not" crowner goes before one for picking titles so people can vote on the two actions separately.
That being the case, there is now a single proposition rename crowner for this trope here.
"irhgT nm0w tehre might b ea lotof th1nmgs i dont udarstannd, ubt oim ujst goinjg to keepfollowing this pazth i belieove iN !!!!!1 dYou know, I was looking at the description of this trope, and I had the thought that Karmic Twist Ending was probably a better name for it right before I took a look at this article.
On the topic of the crowner, it already has 13 yea votes and not a single nay vote. I think it's obvious that everybody who cares wants a rename, so I'm gonna suggest we pull the crowner now and put one with rename candidates.

"Suffer a vicious person and you will fear vice. Suffer a virtuous one and you will soon loathe virtue itself." Tony DuvertIt's been 5 days and the crowner is strongly in favor of rename. Is it time to call it?
Oppression anywhere is a threat to democracy everywhere.Calling rename crowner.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickThere is now an alternative titles crowner for this trope here. Feel free to add names as you see fit.
"irhgT nm0w tehre might b ea lotof th1nmgs i dont udarstannd, ubt oim ujst goinjg to keepfollowing this pazth i belieove iN !!!!!1 dHow come the little crowner icon isn't showing up on the main TRS page?

It seems that the consensus is in favor of Karmic Twist Ending with 10 yeas 0 nays, and the rest not having a single positive net vote. Should we call the crowner already or do we wait a bit more?

"Suffer a vicious person and you will fear vice. Suffer a virtuous one and you will soon loathe virtue itself." Tony DuvertI'd say give it a couple more days. It's unlikely the consensus will suddenly reverse, but better safe than sorry.
Crown Description:
Previous crowner showed consensus support for a rename.
As discussed here, I'm proposing Twilight Zone Twist be renamed to Ironic Twist Ending. This keeps the parallel with Outer Limits Twist (being renamed to Cruel Twist Ending), while at the same time being actually descriptive of the trope.
Belief or disbelief rests with you.
