Since I'm a political junky, I'd like to know the track records of your governors in your respective states, including recall efforts, scandals, campaign finance, domestic policies and what not.

To start with, how are Snyder, Walker and Perry as governors?

Walker is a dunce.

I'm not sure what Andrew Cuomo's gubernatorial record is like so far, but he seems harmless, at the very least.

Can't speak for Eliot Spitzer, but Governor Patterson's "TAX FUCKING EVERYTHING" approach caused a bit of splash, IIRC.

...I thought I've said this before.

In any case, yes. Walker, insofar as I can tell, has done nothing of merit, likely owing to his immediate flame out and following attempts to be forgotten as much as possible in the midst of recall attempts.

He's smart about it, though, I give him that. Do the unpopular shit right away and then hide long enough for the goldfish voters to forget about it when the angry political counterstrike comes, and as such win that way.

Governor Paterson revised Governor Spitzer's record-size executive budget proposal to cut spending. Budget negotiations carried over past the deadline, causing the new Governor to lament that too many lawmakers were "unwilling to make serious cuts to our budget."[99] On April 10, the $121.7 billion budget package was passed by both houses of the State Legislature. His budget closed a projected $4.6 billion deficit with $1.8 billion of spending cuts, $1.5 billion in additional revenue from increased taxes and fees and $1.3 billion of one time transfers, and did not tap into the state's $1.2 billion of reserves or increase the top income tax rate on those earning $1 million or more.[99]

In May 2008, Governor Paterson informed New York State agencies that they were required to recognize same-sex marriage licenses from other jurisdictions for purposes of employee benefits.[67] The governor's directive was purportedly based upon a decision from New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division's Fourth Department.[67] The governor's directive did not receive widespread public attention until weeks after the directive was given.[68] At that time, the governor's decision provoked public reaction on both sides of the issue. While Governor Paterson's directive received widespread approbation from same-sex marriage supporters,[69] it was met with criticism from conservative legislators and from same-sex marriage opponents, one of whom referred to the directive as Governor Paterson's "first major blunder."[70][71][72] Then-Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno and others accused Governor Paterson of having overstepped his bounds and usurped the authority of the Legislature.[70] Governor Paterson reportedly described same-sex marriage as "beautiful," and contended that his decision was "the right thing to do"; the governor was enthusiastically cheered when he attended the 2008 gay pride parade in Manhattan.[73][74][75]

@Wicked,

He gets credit for being pro-LGBT, but then this:

...or increase the top income tax rate on those earning $1 million or more.

Is fail.

The Cato Institute gave him an F on fiscal policy, so he can't be that bad. [lol]

He managed to get Gay Marriage through a Republican Majority Hous (and I think overall legislature). That is a Political Moment of Awesome right there.

Perry reduced education funding so that my mother and other teachers are earning four thousand dollars less this year. With Dad gone, this is a major strain on her. She's kind of wishing he gets the presidential nomination so he's around less this year to make decisions about Texas.

This, combined with denying Houston the funds to improve/expand its light rail, and then turning away emergency funds and then throwing a fit when we had those wildfires and we didn't get financial help or whatever, pretty much says he's a fucking idiot. There's probably plenty I don't know about, too.

[up] For Perry, here's a very good report about him, with Matt Taibbi as the author.

Snyder is straight-up fucking up. Honestly, he makes Granholm look like a damned good governor. She was a great attorney-general, but not so great as governor.

Far as I'm concerned, Perry is worse than Bush. Which is why I don't want him to be president.

Governor Jay Nixon here in missouri is a pretty cool guy. Not only is he a Democratic party member (yay) but he's actually managed to work with the Republican controlled Missouri legislature to get a lot of good, balanced bills through.

Perry's got another shot at the presidency if he wins re-election as governor, which he almost certainly will, since the rich in Texas support him the best.

Considering his performance this year I'd say his presidential aspirations are tanked. Mom wants him to get the nomination though so he doesn't spend the next year here, though.

I believe Reagan was likeable, and didn't have an episode where people wondered if he was high or something.

[up] He still lost the nomination twice. Stronger showing against Ford, but nonetheless.

Perry's still no Goldwater. That was a disaster.

I wouldn't mind another Goldwater if it meant a Democratic president could be a bit more left wing.

Not sure if Clinton could be considered to the left of Carter, or if Carter is to the left of Lyndon Johnson, but yeah.

A lot can happen in three years. If he decides to run for re-election again, especially if he wins again, I think he'll try again.

Remember, Ron Paul got less than 1% when he first ran for the presidency. Now, he's one of the closest that can challenge Romney adequately.
