Thread title says it all.

For me, it's "Free Bird". Somehow last year, in all my 19 years plus thus far, was the first time I ever heard it. It didn't even really leave any impression on me either*

, but that is not the point.

To a lesser extent, "Stairway to Heaven", though I did end up at least hearing it by the time my first two years of high school ended, and I'm fine with its existence.

Any of yours?

[up] I didn't hear "Stairway To Heaven" until I actually went out and bought the album - that probably would have been over 10 years ago, but still. The weird part is that at the time I listened to a lot of classic rock radio, as well as a station that was otherwise contemporary rock but also played a lot of Zeppelin - I think I had basically heard every famous Led Zeppelin song but "Stairway To Heaven" before then.

Also, in general, there's a lot of songs that Todd In The Shadows has covered that I'd never heard until I watched his videos, especially ones from 2011 - of his top 11 worst songs of 2011 I'd only heard "The Lazy Song", "Look at Me Now" *

, and "The Time (Dirty Bit)" before he'd done videos about them.

Almost anything released in the past five years. Avoiding radio and TV can do that.

Stairway to Heaven is an odd case with me too. It took me forever to hear it; I think I only heard it once on the radio before buying the album when I was 18. It quickly became my favorite song.

[up][up]Regarding "Look At Me Now", I probably never would've heard it (as I never even heard it on the radio) if one of my suitemates wasn't a huge Chris Brown fan (to my extreme dismay).

I haven't heard (Can't Get No) Satisfaction or Stairway yet. I don't really plan to any time soon either.

Most stuff by pop/rock bands (i.e. One Republic). I just don't listen to that kind of music and none of my friend do either.

Haven't heard the entirety of Stairway to Heaven, Free Bird, almost any song by the Beatles (except Maxwell's Silver Hammer), Love the Way You Lie (Rihanna/Eminem) if that's even popular anymore... never heard an entire Justin Bieber song, either, only clips in videos making fun of him. Thank goodness. Incidentally I was kinda late to the hate-party for him in the first place.

"Maxwell's Silver Hammer" is kinda a hell of an obscure only Beatles song to have heard. I remember seeing some flash movie music video for it a long time ago though, would that be where you heard it to begin with?

While My Guitar Gently Weeps... <3!

  • ahem*

Basically anything they play on pop radio these days. I used to pay some mild attention, but then I figured out that the lyrics were total garbage that glorified abusive relationships and promiscuity and that the music wasn't impressive at all and went back to my native rock.

Long live R.E.M.!

I could probably count the number of times I've heard Stairway on one hand, though, now that I think about it....

I have still never heard Rebecca Black’s “Friday.” Sure, I’ve heard tons about it, but I’ve still never actually heard it.

Most Top 40 stuff I, too, am exposed to for the first time via Todd’s show. I don’t think I’d make it through without his ranting, frankly. A lot of the time I think he’s too lenient. What were his words again? “Armpit farts and the screams of dying children?”

Gay pool parties are another good place to hear the more dance oriented of today’s pop music. Who do I have to blow in order to insure I never have to hear “Tik Tok” or “Bad Romance” ever again?

Songs by bands who were popular in America but less so in the UK, I guess. So I hadn't heard songs like "With Arms Wide Open" or "Higher" by Creed until I sought them out about a year ago.

Pretty much 80% of anything that's been on American Top 40 in the last four years — not out of any sort of desire to keep out of the mainstream, but mostly because I haven't been in earshot of a radio for years, and most of the music I actually search for to is either decades old, from outside the country, or from genres that will never make it that high again (there's been like, what, five prog songs on Billboard's 100 in the past ten years?).

Justin Bieber, to be honest. Everybody talks about him and he gets this massive horde of pretty staunch detractors every time he's brought up in conversation, but I honestly think I've only ever heard one of his songs on the radio.

[up]I've heard his songs, but never on the radio. I never get why people complain, even the pop stations that play nothing but top 40 rarely play his songs. I usually hear them on clips played on some show or something.

[up]You at least need to make it to the one part of the song that does not seem to fit in with the rest (you'll know it when you see it).
