Room for improvement?: Cute Giant

Lotso's a pretty terrible example to use as a page image; he's not that much bigger than the other toys and he's a pretty despicable villain, undermining the "cute" part for those familiar with the movie. Plus, he's not big compared to us humans, which might be confusing.

Big Baby might be better if you can find a good pick of him, since he's at least much larger and turns out to be sympathetic and nice later on.

I'm not sure if he counts as cute for some people, but here's some nice pics I found of The Iron Giant that I at least think are pretty cute.

Why? It's redundant with the quote and it's a hack of someone who is not usually an example (Yoshi is no more a cute giant than Kirby is).

I don't see that as problems; we've been tolerating outright Not An Example images before.

But if the replacement is better, go ahead. Not going to miss it.

"Cute," at least for the purposes of this trope, refers exclusively to appearance, and has nothing to do with whether someone is good or evil. If use of an evil cute giant for a page image happens to be counter-intuitive, then so be it; it may even help emphasize the appearance-centric nature of the trope and in so doing help minimize underuse.

I think the real problem with that is that he just doesn't look giant. Big, yes, but he's barely taller then Woody right there.

That's not really a giant though. (Or cute, relative to the characters there.)

If we really want to change it, that enormous dog seems a natural candidate.

If we are to go with Clifford, I think we should go for something juxtaposing him with other characters for comparison. (The more other characters the better, so as to emphasize that it's not that they're small but that he's a giant.)

Anyway, any suggestions on how I can emphasize that this is trope about "cuteness" in the strictly appearance-centric sense of the word?

Crowner's up. I didn't use the Iron Giant pics because I didn't get a sense of "cute" from them, but you can add them if you like.

Those are ferocious animals. Something with big eyes, big forehead, maybe soft. If only Clifford were-... wait!

"Ferocious" and "cute" aren't mutually exclusive.

In any case, there are other reasons against the polar bear pic, and the crowner evidently isn't favouring it now anyway. I guess we may as well call this, with Clifford as the winner.
