Gosh, another idiot not understanding.
And let's refrain from personal attacks shall we?
Always looking for a good MMORPG with a great community...When I first clicked this thread, I thought there actually was a senator named Douche Bagg.
But yeah, politicians. whatcha gonna do
Ross Lincoln, the author of that article....called Geo Cities horrible. Surely he must die and nothing he says should be agreed with.
Troper PageHoly golasn, fail at its finest
http://steamcommunity.com/id/Xan-Xan/Someone get this man a copy of Election '84.
I have a copy of Doonesbury Election. Buggy and broken as hell, but fun.
Jonah FalconHehe, think that senator is bad? Look up Keith Vaz, Labour Party, on Google and see what us Brits have to put up with.
Wow. Speaking as someone who tends to be conservative, that's just crazy. I think maybe it's time we started electing people who actually know what they're talking about, which I guess would mean kicking out all the current senators and electing people that are under 40.

The article claims that he considered Schindler's List 'pornographic' but doesn't provide a quote. It links to wikipedia, which only says that he objected to it being shown on TV uncut, and doesn't mention him calling it pornographic. So I'm going to guess that he probably didn't.
He's not calling video games the devil's tool or anything, he's just doesn't think a video game museum is a good way to spend the government's money.
Author of the article says that the senator's website is absolutely horribly designed... did he even look at it? http://www.coburn.senate.gov/public/
Looking over Coburn's list of wasteful expenses, I'm more worried about his apparent anti-pancake bias. How the hell did he get elected to congress without clear, unwavering support of pancakes? Talk about out-of-touch!
tldr; the article is dumb and there is nothing to be horribly shocked about here

Except [condescending response follows]. Because [sarcasm here]. You do understand [snark], right? POTHOLE TO SARCASM MODEhonestly, i dont think it is either.
i mean, unless it allows us time to play games we dont have on consoles we dont have. but that wouldnt be a museum.
Video game museum? thats a good idea,
http://steamcommunity.com/id/Xan-Xan/Videogames are an important part of culture as well. Maybe not as much as other forms of art, but the medium is still young. I think a videogame museum has merit.

Yeah, there's plenty of old tech worth saving.
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific Mackerelbut its not like with a history museum where it has priceless artifacts we cant see in person otherwise, or art museums that...put...fakes? reals? whatever...for some reason...okidontknowmuchaboutthat.
if we need to learn about videogames? go to wikipedia or do a quicksearch on google.
if we want to get the actual console from waaaaay back when for whatever reason, it'll cost what, like anywhere between 20-100 pounds on ebay, unless the seller is being unreasonable?
so i dont quite see the point in a museum dedicated solely to videogames.

To educate other people who'd like to learn? I mean, yeah, you or I could look up the history of just about anything on Wikipedia, but that hasn't killed off museums in general, now has it?
I mean, come on, there's something appealing about an exhibit on, say, the Amstrad CPC, where people can go look at it and a tour guide can say "this existed, and you may not have known that it did."

"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific Mackereli dunno about other museums, but the thing with history museums is that they tend to sometimes have priceless artifacts you cant see in person anywhere else.
sure you can learn about them. or you can go to the museum and learn and see.
but with videogames to either learn or see in person or both, a museum simply isnt necessary
I dunno, I'd like to see an old Commodore 64 in person.
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelBest to start a collection now, when we have a checklist, than later when we have to dig them up.
Preservation is just as important as rediscovering things.
You can argue whether or not a video game museum is a good idea or not, but either way the indignant tone of the linked article is ridiculous. The guy's not exactly Jack Thompson.
EDIT: oh and I can say the same of the OP. He thinks video game museums are a waste of gov't money, therefore he probably whacks off to genocide? Good gravy...

Except [condescending response follows]. Because [sarcasm here]. You do understand [snark], right? POTHOLE TO SARCASM MODEYeah, this article is basically just making a quick buck on a headline that they know people will repost, even if it has little or nothing to do with their story (no offense OP).)
True, but pretty much any video game is already being preserved by lots of fans and hobbyists. Why should taxpayers foot the bill?

<><Why should taxpayers foot the bill for *any* museum. After all, private citizens and organizations already collect and preserve.
You can argue about whether the government should fund museums, but once you accept that museum funding is a legitimate activity, video games are as legitimate a subject for a museum as any other form of art or media.
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comFourkiller's attempt failed, too.
I propose we tax that guy's name. Fourkiller? Pretty violent.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.
Epic Fail, too.
Gotta "love" someone who thinks the nudity in Schindlers List was pornographic. Yeah, when I want to beat my meat, I rent that film for the Jews about to be shaved and humiliated then gassed later.
Jews being gassed I'm sure is his porn that he beats off to.
