@spash: They wanted a more obviously fantastical (not real-world) setting for the film, and they had a good justification for it in the art book, so I give it a pass. It gives them a reason to diversify their characters as well.
I guess Moana won't have any white folks in it?

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectSo they could have full freedom to change anything they wanted without Marvel being on their backs. Had they picked Wolverine or Spider-Man, Marvel would have been imposing portrayal conditions all the way through, but with Big Hero Six, no one in the comics side of things would care or bother.
To be fair, Frozen also takes place in an very Americanized fictional version of a real country, but then again, if the filmmakers wanted to be super accurate, everybody would be speaking like Oaken, which would make for a very... interesting movie.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Even Oaken isn't very realistic anyway, so.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectAnd in Beauty and the Beast, everyone was French but Lumiere was the only one with the accent. So it goes from quite awhile back.

Yes, but everyone speaking like Oaken is a funnier mental image.
And in Lilo and Stich, Stich's Hawaiian accent was TERRIBLE!

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Lilo and Stitch was probably one of the more atypical Disney films, really.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI'm glad I wasn't the only one put off by Disney making the movie "NOT TOO Japanese!! OH NOOOO!"
Oh God, the hips on Nani.
My various fanfics. On second thought, no Frenchman in that age would have named their children Potts or Cogsworth, so there's a good chance a big part of Beast's domestic help came from other countries.
As for BH-6, I thought it was less of a matter of making the movie 'less Japanese' and more of making it 'more global'. Honey Lemon, for instance, was retooled into being Latina, and before anyone comments on her looks, yes, many Latin women do look like that.
They came from a faraway land where parents are gifted with incredibly good foresight when it comes to naming children.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon. You mean like Gotham City, where your parents doom you to a life of crime if they name you E. Nygma, Harley Quinzeel or Victor Fries?
I think some behind-the-scenes Harry Potter stuff said wizarding parents hire fortune tellers to help them name their children, so I like to think that's the canon explanation for every series with Meaningful Names.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon. No worse than Ben Tennyson.
That said, Harleen Quinnzel is seriously pushing it.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectGiven that it worked, I'm not inclined to question it.
I like Elsa from the movie, she's very composed and formal as a queen should be... I also like Sven because he's a goofy reindeer.
In an anime, I'll be the Tsundere Dark Magical Girl who likes purple MY own profile is actually HERE!Sometimes you don't get a Meaningful Name, you get something more subtle.
For example, Steven Rodgers was born on the fourth of July.
Re: Big Hero 6 - to be fair, San Fransokyo *is* a pretty good portrayal of what a modern Asian megapolis looks like, though. There are parts of Shanghai you can walk through with exactly that feel, just with not *quite* as many non-Asian people. It will always have a special place in my heart for finally giving my people ( that is, business people. Er, and Asians too, I guess) a fair representation in film.
Re: Dagrons - I think it tried to stuff too many things into it. Valka was kind of...meh, they tried too hard to make her a designated good guy. Haven't seen 1, but as I understand, the Vikings were always fighting the dragons until Hiccup discovered dragons aren't inherently enemies, but were controlled by like a big giant queen dragon or something? So Hiccup having the reaction he did when Toothless didn't immediately attack him makes sense, but her being all "no wait but dragons aren't inherently our enemies" in her flashback doesn't. I did, however, enjoy the part where dragon breaks into her home and she immediately goes for a sword. And I enjoyed the overall Aesop of "yes, there are some people who are just evil and cannot be reasoned with; those guys you just have to fight." Which is a nice segue, I think, into...
Re: bad Frozen Aesops - Don't tell people your big bad evil plan until after they're dead. Really, Hans should have paid more attention to the Watchmen case study back at Villain School.
Re: bad Frozen aesops - The best way to troll people is to give them extremely vague and misleading advice.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.Actually, I think Anna would've figured out he didn't love her and just wanted the throne even if Hans didn't brag about it. The part where he extinguished all the fire and locked her in a room to freeze to death might have clued her in.
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.I always considered that Hans did all the classical villain gloating to break Anna's spirit. He might have deduced that, if true love was to save her, true despair could speed up her demise (he was completely right, by the way - he simply failed to account for Olaf). He might have kept the charade up if she had been mortally wounded, for instance.
(I guess these points has already been debated to death, but I'm chickening from reading the 500 pages before that one and it gives me an excuse to blabber about the movie)
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.Really, I don't think it made any difference one way or the other whether Hans told his evil plan to Anna or not. I mean, if she'd somehow had time to warn other people, that would've been one thing, but she just kinda ended up on the lake, jumping into his sword anyways. I'm sure Anna would've been rescued by Olaf and jumped in the way of the sword even if she didn't realize Hans was evil. It would've just left the audience super confused as to why Hans was randomly murdering his fiancée.
Mr. Incredible and Frozone would shake their heads in disapproval of Hans, though, so there's that.

Because no one knew what it was, so they could do whatever they wanted.
