I just have Shining referred to as "Captain General" in my own warfic. Like there's several other Captains in the Royal Guard, he's just the one in charge.

I know. My most recent approach was to have the Caliphate resemble the late-period Abbasids much more than the Abbasids under Harun al-Rashid. So basically, we've got the Buraqid Caliphate ruling Marabia in name only, with a large amounts of the Caliphate outside Baygdad being ruled by autonomous dynasties that only pay lip service to the Caliph (in the case of Saddle Arabia, they even send out emissaries to other nations).

@Ace: The poster for the school talent show was also writen in unicorn script and the flyers for Sisterhooves Social and the Foal Free Press were both written in pegasus script (assuming the one greeting Celestia was eartn script), so apparently all three are common knowledge.

@Sereg: It's actually not surprising pegasus script is easily learnt, because it was most likely originally historically devised for clear and easy communications over distances via wing/smoke/cloud signals before being put on paper.

The Karkadanns (also known as the Magi to outsiders) are one of the oldest Pony civilisations outside of Equestria. Consisting predominately of Unicorns, the Karkadanns rose to great power during the pre-Discord era, placing the Camels, Lengese*

, and Gaurs under their subordinates. It was during this era that the Karkadanns gained the exonym "Magi", for their powerful use of magic. However, their empire was destroyed by Discord, who as you may expect inflicted much chaos and suffering on the Karkadanns. When Celestia and Luna banished Discord using the Elements of Harmony, the newly liberated Karkadanns created a religion known as the Cult of Harmony, which declared Celestia and Luna to be the divine agents of the Goddess of Harmony, Tawazon, and that the Elements of Harmony are divine relics containing the essences of Tawazon herself. Unfortunately, not too long after this happened, Luna became Nightmare Moon, Celestia banished her, etc. Most importantly, Dhul-Qarnayn soon conquered the Karkadanns after defeating Sultan Hazred and establishing his Caliphate as a result. However, the worship of Harmony was never truly stamped out, and notion arose among the Karkadanns who worshiped Luna that she would eventually be redeemed by the Elements of Harmony.

Eventually, the Qarnaynid Caliphate collapsed and the Karkadanns once again rose again as a powerful state, this time even threatening the Marecedons and the Minotaurs. Eventually, a series of wars against the Marcedonian-Minotaur alliance defeated the Karkadann incursion, and later on, Queen Nika of Marecedon ended up conquering the Karkadanns. However, the empire she built fractured on her death, and the Karkadannised descendants of one of Nika's generals wound up ruling Karkadannistan before being overthrown by a native dynasty.

And yes, most would be probably be ecstatic at the news of Luna's return, and of the news of the new Element Bearers (whom they probably revere as saints, even if they don't know much about them). Not sure what they'd think about Discord's return.
