It is sometimes an appropriate response to reality to go insane. That's news?
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. It's predictable, but still noteworthy, since the government does not want to lose the next elections to the opposition and are already engaging in that type of rhetoric.
In 2015, the following elections will take place:
Open Primaries (August)
Presidential (October)
National Senate (October)
Chamber of Deputies (October)
Provincial (March-October)
Municipalities (March-October)

Isn't that rather terrible pacing? The nation will spend most of the year from one campaign to the next!
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Considering that they will have general elections next year and that last year they had legislative elections which are almost as intensive, I think they've got used to such a pacing. Besides, politics is a big thing there.

Argentina passes law to skirt around US court ruling In other new Botox queen looks hilarious in that photo
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom. That seems like a pretty solid plan to me, as far as I'm concerned they should pay the understanding bond-holders the agreed money and let the hedge funds suck it, give the hedge funds nothing. All Argentina has to do is prove that it will now pay any new debts it builds up, nobody in the international market is going to care if they don't pay the hedge funds, so fuck the hedge funds.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ Cyran^ Assuming they do actually try to uphold future debts, and don't default or pull some legal shenanigans because their grandiose plans go *splat* against the cold hard brick wall of reality. Their track record in that regard is... not encouraging, as I recall.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Because we hadn't gotten round to it.
Or because no-one asked.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Allison Frankel suggests Argentina be given contempt sanctions in order to get them to talk with the hedge funds. This is what the whole thing has evolved into
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom. To be perfectly frank, I have to wonder whether a federal court has that authority. These cases can easily cross into foreign relations territory and as Supreme Court rulings have found that is strictly executive territory.

"You can reply to this Message!"Drones have some fine uses. For example, that archaeological use: you try finding stuff the hard way, hoofing up and down mountains and through bogs in some rather dense, knife-resistant, very spiky grass and/or rainforest. <_< (Seriously: pampas grass is no joke. That stuff is evil incarnate and slices back.)
Ditto finding the evidence of tax dodgers and drug-smugglers doing dodging.

Sure, I'm just saying this is a very slippery slope. And I mean the use of the tech, not the tech itself.
"You can reply to this Message!"Besides, anyone who's familiar with South American kleptocracies know that the best way to keep your money safe is to become the government or its biggest supporter. Why try to squirrel away a few acres in the hope of keeping it secret when you can buy off the government for a fraction of the cost, and have the burrocrats (not a typo) do the protection for you?
All your safe space are belong to TrumpUN human rights council passes resolution against "vulture funds" Argentina (obviously)Brazil, Russia,Venezuela and Algeria voted Yay, with the US,Japan,Germany and the Czech Republic voting nay. Russia for one is in no position to judge about demanding payment from damaged economies, they cut off gas to Ukraine.
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom. But it lets them spite America, so it doesn't matter.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Argentina has been held in contempt of court The punishment has yet to be determined.
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom. The drone use is not a slippery slope at all. It is not any different then using air planes or helicopters to do the same thing.
I have no pity for Argentina. You make a deal with the devil best be prepared to pay the devil his due.

Who watches the watchmen? But it didn't make a deal with the devil, they didn't borrow the money from the hedge funds, they borrowed the money from other people, defaulted and the hedge funds them bought up that debt on the cheep.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranThey did certainly make a deal with the devil. They took loans they likely knew they couldn't readily pay back or it would at best be difficult to do so. That they could then be turned around and sold to anyone was likely in the contracts to begin with. I fully expect governments to read the financial fine print.
