That "success of the holiday season" thing will go on to infamy right next to the "sensation of insecurity" thing and other jewels of out history.

As for Nisman, it's been three months and they're still investigating. If it were a suicide it wouldn't take them this long to arrive at a definitive answer, right?

But Fein, the prosecutor, still seems to lean towards the suicide theory. Arroyo Salgado (that's Nisman's ex-wife, who happens to be a judge herself) is conducting a private invaestigation as well and leans more towards the murder theory. Fein and Arroyo Salgado are at odds whenever something new comes up. In between all those theories and accusations of all sorts. I like to think all of this will get somewhere. Since Arroyo Salgado has a personal interest in this (Nisman was the father of her two kids), being a judge is familiar with proceedings and this was such a highly visual case, I'm not sure this can remain unsolved and in judicial limbo like it's happened with other stuff. But then, in such a politically charged case, in an election year, I'm not sure we'll get much resolution either. Wherever it is going, it'll certainly take a while to get there at the snail pase it's going.

[up]Argentina invades the Falklands, again.

Britain responds.

Kirchner claims the brits attacked first because the Falklands are Argentine territory and thus liable to get Rooskie help.

Everyone, including the Russians, ignores Argentine and they get curb stomped again.

Still not worried, even if the goverment of Argentina was crazy enough to try and invade again (which I wouldn't rule out) the people of Argentina wouldn't have it, the world community wouldn't have it and it wouldn't work physically. I'm pretty sure most of the Argentine navy can't even reach the Falkland now, aren't like half of the ships liable to sink if they put out to sea?

[up]Most of their Navy is either unserviceable rust buckets and the rest that can float on its own is so outclassed to award pity from the Eurofighter squadrons guarding the Islands.

I wouldn't worry much, but Kirchner is looks like someone stupid enough to actually try military action as a last ditch maneuver.

Even if she did try such a thing I can imagine the invasion fleet arriving in in the Falklands territorial waters and surrendering so as to avoid getting double tagged by an Astute Class Attack Sub and 4 eurofighters. She might be that nuts but I think any military personnel assigned to such an invasion would know what they were being ordered to do and find a way out.

Oh ffs...reposting from last page. And just so you know, most of the Fucklands propaganda here actually says that we should "recover" them through diplomacy.

[up]Recovering through diplomacy is just as absurd as trying to recovering it militarily.

Also those A4 Skyhawks belong in a museum already.

[down]It is just a reminder that the Argentine military doesn't have enough amphibious landing vehicles, transport aircraft and sea worthy vessels to transport troops, thus it has no power projection beyond its borders.

[up][up] I can't read Spanish, care to translate?

But yeah, a war isn't going to happen, it's just not a thing that could occur with the way things are at the moment.

[up][up]I know it is absurd, I'm just trying to explain that no-one inside of the country even suggests starting another war.

If they're so committed to diplomacy, why do they always walk out as soon as someone suggests giving the residents a say?

Because it's better for whomever is in government at any given moment to have a cheap distraction manuever that also helps gain support inside the country by appealing to nationalism than actually trying to "solve" the issue. Basically: anything we say about the islands should be taken as seriously as North Korea threatening war because of a stupid movie.

So apparently I just read that a group of doctors who did an autopsy on Nisman have found beating marks on him.

Still a suicide tho, right?

Argentine judge orders the seizure of the property of several oil companies operating in the Falklands, the assets Argentina seeks to seize are worth $156 million. She also called Briton "arrogant and bordering on stupid for refusing to negotiate,i.e surednder unconditionally pay reparations for the Falklands war and allow Argentina to occupy the British isles or whatever megalomaniacal delusions of grandeur she posses. Kristinina Fernadaz de Kichner you are one to talk about arrogance and stupidity. Oh and I also don't care if I misspelled your name!! Oh and you use way to much botoxtongue

The oil companies named in the case are not based in Argentina and it is not clear how the measure will be implemented.

Considering what I hear about Thatcher, I don't want to know what UK's conservative government in the present would be able to do after Falklands War II:The Sequel!!

Stand around in shock at the fact that the rusting Argentinian navy managed to get that far.

Falklands War 2 isn't happening folks. The Argentinian goverment doesn't want it, the Argentinian people don't want it, the international community doesn't want it and even if said groups did want it they'd still run into the fact that it's not possible with the military forces at the disposable of the Argentinian goverment.

I just feel pity for the people of Argentina at this point, they deserve better than a nutty goverment that thinks they can be placated with crap like this instead of actual improvements to the country.

Thing is, corrupt and insane as they may be, the peronists (both of the Kirchner are just the latest incarnation of that political movement) tend to do a lot of social welfare policies mixed with Orwellian levels of propaganda, so they are very popular here.

Does this woman know that you only have to pay reparations if you lose a war? If anyone would have to pay reparations, it's Argentina.

[up]Everything in that quote after "negotiate" was added by the troper you're quoting, it's not in the article itrself.

Yeah that's true, I though it was clear the bits added after negotiations were clearly additional things added in for the sake of comedy. Sorry for not making that clear.
