So, is anyone playing this fun little FPS? For the uninformed, I've got a video from that Total Biscuit guy and he does a better job explaining it then I can.

I'm a bit of a Tribes 2 veteran and have also been playing a bit of Tribes Ascend on the side.

It provides much of that fast, frenetic feel of Tribes that I love, but I'm not exactly fond of the way they monetized the game; custom loadouts are gone in favor of fixed ones that you have to unlock by either playing a lot or forking over real money for a booster (which doubles XP and token gains for a period of time) or "Tribes Gold", a sort of paid-money alternative to the tokens of which you'll need substantially less to purchase classes.

Also unusually enough, I'm surprisingly competent at this game, more than most other competitive FPSs. Of course, high K/D ratios mean almost nothing in a team game about capturing flags or whatnot...too bad I can't seem to get a coordinated group together with the way the game currently is.

Custom loadouts are back (sort of). I tried Tribes and found out I actually suck at Surfing skiing.

I'm not so bad at skiing, but I would like to be able to go fast on the TDM Drydock map without injuring myself.

Also, yesterday, I was on Bella Omega on a round of TDM, and I saw an enemy standing around not too far from where I spawned, so I walked up and melee-killed him. One of the best moments I've had in this game.

I'e debated trying it. I was a huge nerd for the original Starsiege:Tribes back in the day.

Take up his offer Midget.

Its VERY good.

Probably the best FPS I've played in years (Since you dont move like molasses in January going uphill.)

Personally I like the complete lack of Hitscan weapons. Everything has a trajectory and a delay. Also Bullets are affected by your momentum. Have fun hitting airborne targets at 200km/hr

It is kinda fun, until it leads to this.

I've been playing this game for about a month and a half now, and I think I'm finally getting the hang of it. I've been spending most of my time guarding the generator as a Technician, but now I'm starting to use the Brute, which isn't going too bad.

Oh, and the game is in Open Beta now.

Been playing this myself. I love the pathfinder, going fast and grabbing flags is the most enjoyable part of this game IMO.

What're your thoughts on that new Infiltrator stuff?

It's crazy, at least. A remote-detonated explosive launcher? Throwing knifes in place of nades? (As it turns out, it replaces the pistol, go me.) A skin that exposes the arms?

Also, had a good run as Technician last night. So much repairing.

I've not progressed to other classes, sticking with soldier, and I have to say I'm getting quite good at leading targets with both the launcher and assault rifle. But I'm getting tired of all the technicians who set up all the turrets in enclosed spaces and then just camp there.

And I can't play CTF for shit. Purely Team Deathmatch for me. :/

Started playing a few days and playing a Soldier. This is easily the most fun I've had in a multiplayer shooter (More fun than I had in TF 2!) and I enjoy going fast.

Although I wish my teammates would chase flag carriers more often. I am often annoyed when I chase one and I find that I am the only one who tried to.

I...can't do attack. I am completely incapable of anything but hanging around my team's base as a Brute or Technician, defending the generator or flag and fixing things.

...on the other hand, I'm getting really good at defending.

[up][up][up]

I admit I'll usually pop my sentries somewhere enclosed (but near the flag, for chrissake), but I spend 90% of my time repairing the ENTIRE DAMNED BASE because nione of the other technicians seem capable of noticing things other than their light sentries.

Started playing earlier in the week, just got a booster in hopes of hitting level 10 before launch tomorrow. If you've hit level 10 before launch, you get a 10,000 exp bonus, modified by VIP and boosters; meaning if you have both you get 30,000. SO yeah.

Is there any way to make third-person the default view mode? So far it's been a lot better unless I'm a Juggernaut (because his huge ass obscures where I'm aiming), and it's annoying to have to waste time switching everytime I die.

And thank god for ski-toggle, my thumb would not be functioning if I had to hold it the entire time.

Good lord, if you go on the Outskirts 3P map in Capture-and-Hold mode, do not stand around at Point A. I guarantee that everyone will be swarming that damn point and explosions will casually litter the area.

[up] I watched Total Biscuit's video on that map. The "Disco Grenade" party is crazy over at that point - so much so that you can easily rack up a lot of points. Great area for the Brute and Juggernaut.

Also, I'm loving the Technician's Thumper. I managed a good run yesterday on Outskirts 3P where, in one life, I dropped a Light Turret and got two explosion-related kills (a second Air Mail and a No Joy) before getting killed. I love target-rich environments.
