I wouldn't say it changed tone. The tone remained the same, it was just worn out.

Heck, if I had point when the finally dropped the ball, it's when Warrick died. Right after that they entered the period of "We're out of ideas". Grissom leaving solidified it. And Warrick was the first main cast member to leave.

The running out of ideas part did change the tone it went from 'Science is cool!' To 'DRAMA!'and season long arcs that had nothing to do with crime scene investigation and more a killer is out to get you.

The practical experiments like going out and blowing up a bomb to recreate something or swinging a baseball bat at a dummy for blood splatter were gone. The ability to make montages of just looking at things or processing something interesting disappeared. The actually pretty funny sarcasm just left as well.

The finale however it was all back, even the sarcasm.

The second you ditch The Case as the most important part of a detective story it's tone is changed and GG. CSI Miami and NY did it too, the latter tried to go back to it roots before the end but it was too late.

NY I kinda liked bits of. I hated Miami because they made it a lot more about the run and gun sort of police work from the start, and there was that one truly awful Video Games Are Evil bit they did.

If I wanted to watch just the finale, what would I need to know to not be completely confused?

You remember the Lady Heather episodes? That's all you need to know.

They went out of their way to go just old school with all the new characters being sidelined.

Basically be up to date with the Lady Heather Episodes (Especially the last one), and know how Grissom and Catherine left the show.

Lady Heather is my favourite character in the entire CSI franchise apart from Calleigh Duquesne. There's something about a lady who is competent with a firearm that pushes my buttons. Sue me.

And nothing at all to do with being a dominatrix and generally very intelligent woman? :D

For the first time in what seems like decades, no new episodes of the CSI franchise are going to be produced any more. CSI:Cyber has been killed off by NBC.

Having never watched an episode of that show, I'm not really sure what to think. Sure the show itself is piss, according to its ratings, but no more CSI? At all? That's painful.

Well the franchise's been long past it's prime for a while. Hell I'm surprised the Original Flavour lasted as log as it did after losing 3 core cast members in a season and a half (Sara came back but still, by the end she was one of only like 2 original members left in Vegas).

I'll admit that I actually watched the show, mostly because I found it amusing. But I couldn't get over the glaring flaws it had so I'm not really upset that it got cancelled, But to see the franchise come to an end is kinda sad.

NCIS still exists, and a lot of the stuff they do for their portrayal of forensics and how folks use computers is hilariously bad. C.F. Tim Mc Gee and Abby typing using the same keyboard at the same time trying to do something.

CSI: Cyber was okay, but it was clearly written by people who don't have a real idea about how the Internet, hacking, or social networking actually functions.

For example, the episode that featured the dating app which apparently allowed members to track people they're interested in. It's never brought up at any point during the episode that such a thing would be illegal, and that the site should be shut down, nor are the site owners brought in for questioning.

It also always bothered me that the three former federal offense hacker characters were all minorities.

With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptation

I know. I work in an IT company, and we LOVE how terrible the show was. What makes CSI Cyber fun is that they clearly do the research in some aspect, but then go full idiot ahead for the rest.

Like, they'll have an episode showing how social engineering is used to threaten a network, that people don't just type like mad to break the firewall like hollywood does... then they'll do something stupid the very next scene

My personal favorite was the Brand X Kinect (where they even show you how the Kinect actually works! Accurately). then proceed to look for the Kinect's Wiimote style golf club (Why does it need one? It's a kinect, you just explained why it doesn't need it) and find it because it's broadcasting it's GPS coordinate, from across town (whut?).

Or explaining that roomba can scan the layout of a room and keep it in memory, so they use the roomba to figure out where the body is... by turning it on. So why isn't the roomba scaning the room again and ovewriting its old memory of where the corpse is. Why does it vaccuum assuming there's a dead body in the room? why not have one of your hacker dump the memory file????
