They themselves seem to be a wee bit like those "hardcore" Sonic fans who constantly bitch and moan about how the "best" were the first ones up until the first Dreamcast Sonic game, and that everything else afterwards sucked. That, or when the writers started giving Sonic some characterization instead of the typical "get all the chaos emeralds, beat Robotnik" shtick.

I don't read Game Informer often, but I distinctly remember Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games getting a low graphics score with the only reasoning being "Yep, those are some nice primary colors..."

Ok, you have suficinately proven that GI editors don't like Sonic games. Is there anything else you would like to discuss?

The covers look great. Sadly, they often baldy review the cover games.

I used to a subscriber to the magazine. After the issue with their review of Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door, however, I fell out of interest for it.

Just got this month's issue of GI.

...now I see why there are all the Sonic comments. Starting out with "kind of like these two Sonic groupies" was not a good idea. Anyway.

  1. Editor-in-Chief's letter: Story about how generous gamers are with their money and a kid who's wish, that the Make-A-Wish foundation granted, was to make a video game. PopCap not only approved the idea, but Allied Star Police is out on the iOS. And the kid is getting better (had pre-Baccut lymphocytic leukemia). Daaaaww.
  2. Feedback: I like how Creapers were the #1 scariest video game enemy according to readers.
  3. The "gallery" deserves a mention for the 1st place finish of a Big Daddy made out of a stuffed felt base (I think it is felt) with balloon work decorations including a balloon girl on his shoulder.
  4. Connect: Next games from Naughty Dog (The Last Of Us, set in a post-apocalypse world. Said apocalypse caused by a plant/mold), Epic Games (Fortnight, described as "TF 2-looking, Minecraft-inspired"), and BioWare (C&C: Generals 2).
  5. Massive: Ending of Star Wars Galaxies
  6. Afterwards: interview with the scriptwriter for AC
  7. Team Ico's director leaves studio. Me:sad
  8. Good: MGS:Rising Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is now with Bayonetta's Platinum Games
  9. Bad: Day 1 Studios (made F.E.A.R.) "shed" a large amount of its staff
  10. Ugly: another hacking of Square Enix
  11. Guide to Skyrim
  12. Interview with Richard Garriott (founded 3 game studios and made a film about going into space/the international space station)
  13. Top 10 Trains. I'm amused that a Mega Man character (Charge Man) made it on as #10.
  14. Afterwords: Saints Row The Third
  15. Massive: MMO State of the Union 2012. Asks/answers 3 questions ("How is it doing?" "What's the latest update?" "What's coming in 2012?") for WoW, DC: Universe, Rift, Age of Conan, and EVE.
  16. Impulse: 10 downloadable games you may have missed in 2011.
  17. Interview: ...with Phil Spencer, VP of Microsoft Studios.
  18. Top 50 games of 2011. Includes Top 10 Dorks, Top 10 Heroes, Moments, Villains, Reissues, Downloadable Content, Publishers, Developers, Disappointments, and from each editor (I don't remember them having 19 editors...).
  19. Opinion: "A Developer's Fan Boy's Take on 3D Gaming" Apparently, he was converted (my word) to the idea of 3D gaming after watching a 10second under-water documentary sample multiple times (turned his TV into "an aquarium full of scary snake-like creatures) and 10 min of playing God Of War Chains of Olympus from the origins collection. It ends with "3D is here to stay. Don't fight it. Love it. It already loves you." (I think "converted" works...)
  20. Cover Story: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
  21. Feature: Mass Effect 3
  22. Previews: The Witcher 2 enhanced edition, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, MLB 12, Alan Wake's American Nightmare, Xenoblade Chronicles (I am now looking forward to this), Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD (I believe I still have the original 2&4 around here somewhere...), Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Moon ("Anime: the game" art style with classic RPG everything else), Battleship (brand name from the movie, but not a movie-based game), The Sims 3: Showtime, Ghost Recon Future Soldier
  23. Reviews. Love the 1 out of 10 description this month "Lamer than a one-hour server queue." FF XIII-2 gets an 8 (even though the story is just as bad, everything else improved. "the answer to almost every mystery in the game is 'a time paradox did it'" and a "to be continued..." canonical ending sad), Rochard (8.25), The Adventures of Tintin (7.75), Trine 2 (8.75), Resident Evil: Revelations (9), Corpse Party (8)
  24. Clasic: rating the starting line-ups of every game station. Best is the NES with an A, worst is the Atari 7800 with a F

Great, just finished reading the latest game informer mag and became quite interested in the two post-apocalyptic games I am alive and last of us due to come out soon. Anyone's thoughts on those games?

So, I guess I'd like to offer my opinion after being a GI subscriber, looking at the website, and reading this thread.

Game Informer has great covers, decent articles, and reviews pending on who wrote them. In speaking of which most of you appear to be under the impression the magazine is made up of one person. This would explain how "GI likes (X) in one issue but says it sucks in another!"

Their online content is really great in my opinion. Especially most of the stuff with Dan Ryckert. Some rather entertaining stuff that I would recommend: http://www.gameinformer.com/blogs/editors/b/gidan_blog/archive/2012/02/11/dad-plays-more-games-he_2700_ll-hate.aspx?PageIndex=4

This is a series of videos where Dan makes his father Paul play a few games, and see his opinion on them. It's rather funny to see how they interact.

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2012/01/21/replay-mario-party.aspx

Here is a video where 4 members of the staff are forced to play 20 turns of Mario Party. Dan is the only one that enjoys it, everyone hates him, and hilarity ensues.

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/12/31/super-replay-overblood-part-1.aspx

Full Let's Play of a rather obscure, terrible game.

Really entertaining stuff. I was rather disappointed when we didn't have an article for it on here. Hope you guys get some enjoyment out of this, though.

Hello everyone.
