I think Wonderful is a surprisingly good show with some VERY present flaws. Like saying "The leash is a symbol of trust!" and DOGS WEARING MAKE UP. Which seems like a silly thing but then you remember the animal testing used in Make Up making.

I also thought it was odd that it called the leash a symbol of trust, because I would have assumed that letting your dog off-leash would be more of a sign that you trust that they will come back when called. Maybe it was intended to mean that it's a sign that the dog trusts the person enough to not be afraid of the leash, since the context was about how Komugi used to be afraid of being leashed?

[up] I think the message of "the leash as a symbol of trust" is fine. Imagine if Koumugi was a stronger breed like a Husky or German Shepard. If she was that and didn't trust the leash, what do you think would happen to Iroha for trying to put it on? Answers

The leash exists to keep the dog safe and close to its owner. For the leash to do that, the dog needs to trust its owner; and the owner needs to trust the dog not to fight back.

These two may literally be more bark than bite, but they are no less tenacious than everyone else.

That's a good point too. So maybe "leash is a symbol of trust" still works as a message, similar to holding a child's hand to keep them safe (which the story did use as the human equivalent). I definitely liked the way they showed how to get a dog used to a leash, which aligns with how I've seen it written in good dog training books and articles.

6. Oh hey, a pretty good episode. Komugi still doesn't understand how to deal with setbacks and things changing. Because she's a dog. She wants her reward/new toy, and she wants it now. Iroha may love her, but she's out of her league on how to handle her dog wanting something she can't fix. Tension from the characters and Komugi's unique situation. Stuff that I want. Plus Komugi being scared of the big cat is a neat touch. Even a surprisingly dark cliffhanger. There might be real potential for this season. Unfortunately it also highlights a structural issue in that Komugi is super limited in who she can interact with, so she can't talk really talk about her troubles with anyone but Iroha (since she doesn't care about Satoru or the sheep) and develop a new dynamic. Maybe if there were some other Cures this wouldn't be an issue.

7. The bright side about having a dog main character is that you can do some very basic concepts like talk to people before assuming stuff, and it's not irritating because she's a dog. Satoru really is the tension killer in this show. But he gave Komugi someone meaningful to talk to besides Iroha, so it's fine here. Still like his bunny more. Generally good stuff for Komugi starting to think beyond her favorite human. She did a violence to the Garugaru though. Bad dog. Mayu continues to be a scene stealer even while she's long overdo to transform. I think Yuki belongs on one of the cats are jerks reddits. Which means she's a good kitty. It wasn't in doubt, but I appreciate the confirmation that there is a villain.

Really liked this episode, and also am interested to see how what we learned of Mayu and Yuki's relationship is going to play into Yuki's transformation.

8. Komugi's dog antics are a lot less fun when she's not a dog. Stick to the awkward stuff when you're a dog please. I know this is Animal Town, but is it okay for a middle school to be raising horses and pigs and whatnot? According to Iroha there are procedures to be taken care of before you can go to school. Since when was that the case in this franchise? Can't believe it took this long to get a duo transformation. Even if there was story justification it's still overdue. Speaking of overdue, who wants Kokone? Well we got Kokone at home. Mayu, don't hug the cat too much. She needs her space. Mayu still manages to be a lot more fun by herself than Iroha is. Komugi/Yuki antics should be entertaining. At this point I'm actually docking the show points for holding back on the cats too much. Let them in already.

Based on toy reveals the current rumors are that the cat duo won't be joining until May at the earliest though apparently a recently released toy also spoils their transformations so who knows when they'll join.

9. I didn't expect the Niko Diamond to have the government/mob connections to forge an id to get Komugi into school. What do they tell Iroha's parents when the dog disappears? Komugi handled her first day of class better than I'd expect, but I'm all for it if it reduces the cringe. Still knocking the show points for holding back on the cats.

[up]At first I thought you were posting in the wrong thread, but no. She's this random in the class. Why does Mayu look so much like an NPC compared to her?

We have episode titles up to 12 now; Cure Nyammy will debut at the end of April (Ep 12: "I am Cure Nyammy"), and presumably, Lillian will follow not too long after that.

I mean.Mayu's still gorgous and still has the best designs, both civilian and Cure, of the season in my opinion.

[up]

I feel like you should spoiler that because even though it's been officially announced via episode listings some people might not want to know that.

10. For centuries dogs and cats have warred over who is our superior companion. In case you haven't noticed based on how cool I've been on the series thus far, I don't side with the dogs. This episode is all about Mayu taking in the stray Yuki, and while I'm not gonna deny my cat bias, I like this more than the Komugi/Iroha backstory mostly because we got the details compacted together instead of spread out. Cats can be picky on who they get attached to, but they do show affection if you care for them over time. So with all the good cat content, why have they not joined the team yet? This might be the most disconnected the main plot and fight of the week have ever been disconnected. Show is still getting knocked points till the cats are in.

What do you think the "giant monster" they teased in episode 11's preview will be? Another Garugaru? (it could be the fourth Kirarin animal Garugaru-ified, IDK) Or will it be our first genuine villain?

I've been really surprised that the scary wolf character from episode 7 hasn't shown up again yet. Compared to Futari wa (which I'm currently binge-watching), Wonderful has way less emphasis on the antagonists, so it's a very different type of show in my view.

Not a dog person (I'm allergic to both cats and dogs, but prefer cats), but I'm super torn on which I like more. Komugi is so freaking adorable and I'd love to have a sister like her, but episode 10's story with Mayu and Yuki nearly made me cry...

I'm also curious how Yuki will act once she becomes human. My guess is that she'll mainly be a Deadpan Snarker, but with a soft spot for Mayu and a Sitcom Arch-Nemesis type of dynamic with Komugi.

I fully expect the monster to be that figure we saw earlier in the season, that they're the big bad and we're getting an early preview where the girls fight and lose to him, but they manage to impress him so he decides to leave them be (Maybe with Nyammy showing up at the end since (MAJOR SPOILERS) we know she's at least giving the girls her name next episode and episode 13 is supposed to be about the girls looking for her. So they could be pulling a Moonlight where we as the audience know who Nyammy is but the characters don't. No guarantee of that though.) for now. Either that or the introduction of our first general but all things considered I think early preview of the big bad is more likely since I'm pretty sure that scene with the figure was also set in the mountains.

[up] I don't think the wolf villain is going to be the type to respect our heroes. He said "ningen-domo" in his introduction, and "-domo" implies the speaker has a low opinion of the people he's talking about. So the wolf either outright hates humans or thinks he is superior to us.

I'd wager that if he isn't a straight Omnicidal Maniac, he's an Uplifted Animal of some kind that was abused or traumatized by humans in the past and has sworn revenge on all of humankind.

Or most likely he's been manipulated by The Man Behind the Man and doesn't realize the Garugaru are actually hurting the environment he is fighting to protect.

Just saw Futari wa, episode 21. I very nearly cried. Poor Kiriya, my gosh... I hope that in another life he and Honoka might have actually fallen in love. I know there's a lot of subtext with her and Nagisa, but I found Honoka and Kiriya a really sweet pair, and I'm really shocked that he died the literal episode after his sister. I figured he had a couple more episodes left in him, at least. There's only Illkubo left alive now, and that's going to be difficult to stomach...

Kiriya probably had feelings for her, but I don't think Honoka ever saw him as anything other than a friend. Which doesn't mean she didn't care about him of course.

11. No cat no care. Didn't particularly like Iroha acting stupid for a bit, though she made up for it eventually. Satoru's crush getting played up like this makes me think he's not gonna be a Cure, though he + Daifuku are still the front-runners for sixth rangers. The fight was almost decent for a bit till I remembered the Cures have basically no offensive options. So hard to do something cool or interesting with the Cures this season. None of the bear stuff matters compared to sudden human Yuki jump scare. Hope we get some good flashbacks on when she got her powers. Overly protective kitty. And a violent kitty apparently. Wonder if that will be a point of contention with her. Nyammy is long overdue, but she doesn't look like she'll disappoint.

Okay while I theorized that Yuki was already a Cure and would show up today this isn't how I was expecting it. I'm now not sure what to expect. I was expecting her to be like Muse based on episode 13's title (IYKYY) but now I'm not so sure since it seems like the group'll find out her identity next episode. Either way, I hope Lillian comes sooner rather than later. She has my favorite design of the Cures this season and I absolutely love Mayu as a character so far.

Is it bad to say I was kind of disappointed with this episode even though they teased Yuki's human form? I'm looking forward to meeting her, but I was really looking forward to potentially learning more about whoever's creating the Garugaru, the wolf guy. And he shows up here... for all of ten seconds?!?... I almost think Wonderful doesn't need a villain at all. It really shines when Iroha, Komugi, Satoru, Mayu, and Yuki are interacting with one another, and they're all entertaining characters. So why keep teasing us with the scary wolf silhouette guy, Toei...? All we know about him is that he doesn't like humans and wants to destroy the world, which is sort of barebones.
