It wasn't until Heartcatch did it become people, before that it was always objects being cursed.

Hell Zakenna from the original is from the word 'zakennayo' which is a curse word akin to the F-Word, when beaten they say they are 'sorry'.

So they're not named for their ability to cure crime?

Also I see some people on this list, or what do you call the assistant principal

They cure objects and people with fists and explosions. Makes perfect sense to me.

It reminds me more of The Ring than The Exorcist, personally. I recently saw the original Japanese version of that movie, and the start of it honestly reminded me of an episode of Sailor Moon. You know, how the Monster of the Week starts off as a rumour fit for a horror story, and always ends up being investigated and purified.

I feel like it's a cultural thing.

The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!

Cursed objects, fighting demons and countering/sealing them with Paper Talisman and such is a big part of Shinto and Japanese culture.

Even early magical girl stuff like Sailor Moon and Cutey Honey were purifying demons and such.

The first Precure series came out when magical girl was nearly burnt out but they were aware of all genre conventions and such so they built the series around calling it out or playing with them.

I wonder how much longer they play around with "Mepple is such a needy nuisance he threatens to drive Nagisa into a panic attack."

That is sorta a long term thing. Like when the unstoppable force meets the unbreakable shield. I always think having mascots with similar personality with their personal Cure is boring.

And I suppose nobody else thought the title came from "pedicure"? smile Ooh, they should have Cure Epic the epicure!

24. Being Mirai is suffering. Kids these days grow up so fast. One day they're a baby the size of your hand, and the next they're casting magic like the best magician ever. I guess Haa's nickname got to Mirai's family? Are they going to wonder where all that furniture came from? I think Mirai and Mofurun went overboard on the beads, but whatever makes Kotoha happy.

25. Why is no one giving Haa the talk that the problem isn't her using magic, but magic being seen in general? I don't know how magic has been kept a secret at this point, but still. That one girl is going to go crazy by the end of this. Felice still op.

Hello, I watched the first Pretty Cure anime recently (and some of the sequel of that). I'm interested in watching the other series and I was wondering; are all of them worth watching? Just from appearance alone, Splash Star seems kind of like it was copying the first one. Of course, "looks can be deceiving" and "don't judge a book by its cover" etc. But does my suspicion have any merit? Also, what about the other series?

I haven't seen the first two seasons but I've heard that Splash Star is the first two done right if that matters any. Otherwise you've already seen two of the worst series in the franchise so all that's left is Doki. Everything else is pretty good.

Splash Star is basically the first season, but worst in almost every way except the villains. Worth a watch if you like the series, but probably best to come back to it later.

Heartcatch is generally seen as the best of the series, though I'll also vouch for Yes 5. Fresh and Go Princess are also solid.

Splash Star is worse than the original in nearly every department except the Dark Magical Girls which were awesome and woefully under used.

Precure All-Stars the Movie ~ Everybody Sing! Miraculous Magic!

So the last All Stars movie was complete garbage and one of the low points of the series. This is the second movie of this trilogy, and they tend to be the worst. Does the trend continue? Looks like this is more of a Disney movie than last year's CG dance fest. So they acknowledge Kirara should be gone, but Towa is still around? Well that's not something they'll ever be able to deal with. Probably for the better. Riko is the one blowing their identity this time. Of course. Fights are legit hype this time. Going for an All Stars 3 feeling with separating Miracle and Magical. If the villains are after Precure tears, they really should be targeting Smile. I think they still have some leftovers from Pierrot.

Damn, going up against big bads this time. DokiDoki and HaCha hype is great. I'm annoyed once again that most of the Cures got captured off-screen, though it's not as bad this time since they probably put up a fight. And we got some funnies out of them at least. Peach, Blossom, Melody, and Happy's lack of coordination was great. Why is Lulun getting a big role? And why is she calling for Black when she's Luminous's fairy? Echo hype. Nice to see her just part of the group now. I think we got every big bad except Desperiah. Odd omission since Noise turned good as well.

Backstory blah blah. It was all right, though it went on longer than I would've liked. Sorcielle and Trauma are still some of the better All Stars villains. Final battle isn't the best, but the song was nice, and it was better than what we got last year. Marine failing to catch Happy was lol. Still the scene stealer like always. Mildly disappointed that Sorcielle didn't become a Precure, but it's not a big deal. Some day I hope we get an extended scene of the post battle party. Nice ending song, and Echo finally gets to join them.

Actually legit good this time. Villains weren't garbage, fights were amazing, there was an actual plot, and it really felt like there was genuine effort put into this. Not much inter-team banter so All Stars 3 still remains the best, but this is a must see. Please deliver more of these from now on.

There's hints from the production team that this years all stars movie is the last and they might do stuff like how Super Sentai/ Power Rangers does their crossovers instead.

I'm surprised they've lasted this long without going that route. It's been clear they can't handle 30/40+ Cures in a single hour long movie for awhile.

I already had a feeling that this movie will be pretty awesome the moment I hear the witch sings her leitmotif in the OST, but I underestimate just how good it would be. To be honest, this movie is the most hyped Precure media for me this year, mostly because I think Mahou Girls is pretty tedious and boring, but even then I don't really have much expectation. This surprise me.

Yeah, still think it sucks that the musical series of movies would not be a trilogy.

To be honest, I thought the music in this movie was better than Suite's at several points. I don't mean this as an insult to Suite but rather as a comparative compliment.

These two may literally be more bark than bite, but they are no less tenacious than everyone else.

So is the closest Precure gets to Symphogear, then?

[up] You can literally say that about every other show that uses Magic Music to defeat the bad guys. For example, is Symphogear similar to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time? It's kind of a silly comparison to make since there are so many other major differences between them.

So I take it that starting with Glitter Force (which I did) isn't the best way to get introduced to this series?

Not really. Not even the Japanese version was really representative of the rest of the Precure series, it focused on just slice of life comedy far far too much and the magical girl elements were pure afterthought.

The original series Futari Wa Pretty Cure is probably the best intro IMO if you can handle the fact that it does not have the sky high budget of recent Precure series, it pretty much covers everything. It is on Crunchyroll.

If not then I rec Heartcatch Pretty Cure.
