Pretty Cure general thread

The translation for the newest All Stars movie is done. Please look for it in the usual place you get your download.

I stayed up until after six in the morning to watch it. Unfortunately it's not a very good movie if you take out the portions that make it a musical. The girls barely interact with each other and when they do it's in the most boring way possible, the problem gets solved through a bullshit Deus Ex Machina that is somehow even worse because without Miracle Lights being involved, and the climax is anticlimactic. This one is by far the worst one and is only saved by the music video sequences set to the various opening and ending themes.

I didn't particularly enjoy it either. It's honestly nothing more than one huge Nostalgia Bomb and hardly no fighting at all, you know... the very aspect that gives the franchise its Multiple Demographic Appeal! If I had to pick my favorite part in the movie, it's the moment where Utaen makes an Aside Glance after he trips with the Pretty Cures' Transformation Trinkets and Odoen is Breaking the Fourth Wall to tell "those kids" to keep their treachery a secret away from the Pretty Cures.

Well that was pretty terrible. Not helped for me by the fact that I'm watching a certain other show with a bunch of CG dancing, though that's timing. Should've seen this coming though. They really didn't hide the fact that they were skimping on the voice budget. Which is even worse considering how much time is taken up by old songs.

I need to count to see if they got every fairy. Now I'm imagining that Nagisa and Honoka are still fighting Zakenna in their free time. Bright/Windy cameo. Dream still bragging that she's the only Cure that got somewhere. Though she looked and sounded off. Reminder that Setsuna is in Labyrinth. Tsubomi and Erika continue their perfect attendance since appearance record. Erika is stealing the show as always. Suite got a bunch of cameos for some reason. Decent Mana jokes here. Hime got to take advantage of princess knowledge for once. That's one way to open a switch. Haruka's arc was even more underwhelming than the usual fare. Fights were incredibly lame for a movie. There wasn't even the obligatory Black and White do something crazy awesome fare.

The main dance, Erika, and Hime were the only redeeming factors this time. Otherwise this is easily the weakest of the All Stars movies. Hopefully the next two don't take after this.

Don't get your hopes up. We all know the All Stars movies are done in trilogies so you just know the next two are going to be similar thematically.

And to think we had such high hopes for this...

Oh well. Gorgeously animated Nozomi is enough of a treat. I never liked the All Stars movies anyway.

Not even All Stars Dx 3 with its awesome fights and Astral Finale?

All Stars 3 was great. New Stage 1 and 3 were fairly decent for where they were. The others all had good fights at least. Someone said sometime ago that Aikatsu was eating into Precure. Is that true? Because I this feels like an attempt to imitate Aikatsu. Even more than Happiness Charge's singing attack.

I think they were just talking about how Aikatsu! shares some seiyuu/voice actresses with Precure. Specifically Dokidoki! Precure but possibly others as well.

I've been pretty pro-Precure Musou for a while, although I suppose not too publicly. If I were to make a Precure video game myself though, it would be... different, and episodic.

I liked the movie.

26. New op is improved. Seems that we are getting a new villain. I expect them to be like Northa. Odd that Close is still in the op. Not sure what to think of the new ed. Seems stylized different from usual. Towa is entering her rebellious teenage phase. Which lasted all of two minutes. This is the first time Pafu was actually cute. Shut continues to be the best villain. I always like it when the villains go after weird targets like bugs. Pafu and Aroma vs the Zetsuborg for Battle of the Ages. Certainly better than the fights in the recent All Stars movie. Watch the fairies' new power come up all of twice for the rest of the show.

We're getting two new villains not one.

Okay I watched All Stars Spring Carnival and it wasnt THAT bad.

New ending dance looks... interesting. Seemed to have changed up their CG technique.

I always like when the CG are melding together with the hand-drawn animation, and I think GoPri got the best one in term of on-modelness. The new ending makes their skin looks very slippery, or at least very shiny. The choreography quality isn't decreased, but the frame to frame of the ending shows some very silly facial expression because of new animating style.

I didn't even need a frame-by-frame viewing to see the how silly the facial expressions were in the new ending.

She Starscream now?

27. I normally hate festival episodes, bit they've improved lately. I used to be meh on Yui, but pairing her up with Haruka done wonderful things for our protagonist lately. Kirara has roped Towa into a dangerous world. More Haruka/Yuuki shipping. Lame, but Flora calling him a loser was a decent speech. Ending changed.

28. Rich people and their islands. Of course the fire Cure doesn't know how to swim. Not a very subtle hint she wants to stay away from the water. Even when Yui gave her an out. Though I guess that's the point, that she's still awkward around people. A princess must have her pride after all. So Yui becoming a Precure was brought up after all. If she wants to make stories of them, there's a little company called Toei she might be interested in joining. Props to resisting as long as she did. Lock pulled a new power out of his ass (hood?), but she has suddenly cemented himself as one of the series's most competent villains thus far in a simple move. Not bad I'll admit.

It took me too long to notice we have three different endings sequences for the new type. Next week should be the fourth.

What Lock did wasn't that impressive though? People have taken away the Cure's ability to transform before and the Cures always manage to get their henshin items back and kick ass. Lock's actions really aren't any more competent than Towa's were back when she was Twilight or Ellen's back when she was Trio the Minor's boss and tricked Hibiki and Kanade by pretending to be Cure Muse.

29. Lock did good work collecting evil energy in under 10 episodes. Not many are that efficient. So I guess pass spirits felt like giving them a pep talk and hand me downs. So I guess the keys imply the past ones were Cure Sakura, Cure Coral, and Cure Galaxy. The last one has a cool name. Lock continues to not screw around. I suppose this is as good a time as any for him to bite it.

I guess this will be the final ending?

Possibly. I've seen multiple sites point out that the current ED seems unfinished with what appears to be room for a fifth Cure but since we have no spoilers for that...

A fifth Cure would be out of nowhere type of thing.
