Hell every member of the Imperial Family aside from the Emperor and Empress has Princess or Prince as their official title. The one linked above? The second youngest princess out of thirteen officially recognized princesses.

Ah, there we go. That's interesting. Those families really do stick around. Doesn't change my overall point, but I stand corrected.

Japan still has an Imperial family?

By the way, kinda thread hopped here. Haven't really been keeping track of the latest show.

Japan still has an Imperial family?
Canada still has a royal family.

...We're kinda almost literally too lazy to change it.

Anyways, despite some eh episodes, I've generally enjoyed Go Princess Precure quite a bit. Generally, I enjoy Precure as a whole. That's why I watch it.

I don't have any particular issues with the criticism here surrounding the series. I think being critical is a healthy part of enjoying media in general.

Since people are so interested in my opinion, I don't hate Go Princess. I don't think it really has bad writing, or is sloppy, or is pulling some sort of bait and switch, or whatever. For the most part it's executed competently. The problem is that what's being executed is dull. We've seen most of the major beats before, and the new stuff (mostly related to living in a dorm and Yui) just aren't particularly compelling. The plot and premise don't have an interesting hook. The characters aside from Kirara just do their job. Haruka is pink leader preparing to become pink messiah. Minami is blue ojou. Pafu is a clumsy fairy. Aroma is the stern fairy (I like him still). Kanata is the hero prince. Dyspear is evil. The trio are quirky evil (though Shut got decent when Twilight appeared). Twilight is/was brainwashed evil princess.

Kirara of course is the exception. She shows off more depth in how she cares for her friends, family, and job. She's also just plain more fun to watch in general. Her focus episodes tend to be much more entertaining as a result. Production values are also high, meaning the fights have been consistently good. Too bad Toei couldn't give a certain other popular magical girl show the proper budget. Nothing overtly stupid has happened, and no character is worth hating. Not even Minami, whose problem is that I don't care about her.

I suppose that brings into question whether it's better to be interestingly bad (DokiDoki) or dull. Not something I can really answer until the show is finished of course.

Perhaps we wouldn't attract that Kefka if we understand your definition of what is 'not dull'. Sometimes, what is dull to one doesn't look too dull to another. But if you keep saying about what is dull to you and not explaining what will awe you or consider you not saying it's dull... people like him might get the idea that you're being overly negative, or... *gasp!* hating the show, while in truth, you're not.

Well speaking of this show... you know, I posted this on WMG, but... this show is like making deliberate attempts to make mention about Minami's mother. When it comes to her predecessors and their successes, it's always her father or her brother. And to be honest, I thought they're just gonna debunk that and say 'Oh, they have perfectly normal relations!' when Kirara demands the girls to explain about their mothers (so she can compare with hers)... but it got cut off before they got into the juicy parts.

Is it just me or I think that this is something of a foreshadowing that Minami's mom was dead long before she could remember anything, or they have an extremely bad relations that Minami refused to speak about her at all?

If you haven't figured out what I consider dull from what I've posted thus far, then I can't help you. Perhaps you have different standards for what is dull. That is perfectly fine. I don't recall stating my opinion is the one and only true opinion. Heck, I would hope the target audience is still enjoying this and is not as picky as me. This should be up their alley. I don't actually know what they think of this other than that Pretty Cure remains very popular.

Though I haven't seen much disagreement with me based on the show's actual merits. But here's an example. I expect next episode to focus on Towa adjusting to life on Earth while being extremely apologetic of her actions and carry a lot of guilt. Dyspear will use this guilt to try and seduce her back. Shut will be the villain as he tries to woo her back. It will culminate in Towa overcoming her dark past and becoming Scarlet. If most of that happens, then I'll consider it dull. Now maybe the execution will be stellar, or Towa will be an excellent character, or I'll be completely wrong. But that's about where I stand.

As for Minami's mom, I thought something similar for Kirara's dad for awhile, but then he was mentioned. So who knows.

It's true that one opinion doesn't really dictate what's other people's opinion, but there are things that we have agreed of. At this point, the blue archetype is already exhausted, that's why those who 'betray' the archetype like Erika and Hime is a welcoming presence. Minami at this point of the series is an expy of an expy of an expy, which damaged her appeal because she is giving nothing new to the series.

In contrast, the yellow has a pretty wide perimeter of character to play with, and that's the reason why they usually the dark horses of the seasons. They make the series fun by inserting their character into the show's mechanic, and even though their contribution toward the overall plotline is minimum, their position as The Heart is important to enforcing the season's aesop by being the closest to both of demographics' (for better or worse) appeal.

I think if in someway Minami is just like your theory, then I would like to see it. The drama came from down-to-earth situations is always interesting, but the depictions in Precure is a mixed bag. Honoka's grandma and Yayoi's dad episodes are incredible, while the fumbling writing with Miki's parents left me confused though I understand the fear of blatant depiction of divorced parents. Let's just wait and see.

Edit: It seems the one who directing this week's episode is the one who did Smile's mindbreak episode. This might be good.

So here it is, Cure Scarlet's debut episode.

Well, does it uses the most tropes straight like an arrow? Yeah, it does. Does it so gloriously? Yeah, it does, in my humble opinion. Personally, I really like the pictures this episode, especially the scene on the hill, where Haruka and Towa met and Dyspear appears. The use of the flowers as a mirror to the characters and Dyspears soft and thorough attack on Towa's guilty feelings was done wonderfully. I also was surprised, that you can combine the two violine songs in the series to one! Quite the nice idea. So, for Cure Scarlet's transformation, short fight sequence and special attack, I think they really improved the "Mode Exchange" transformation with her.

[up] I agree, and the fight scene is one hell of an Animation Bump — even for this series! The Theme Music Power-Up is also among the best I've heard from the franchise as well, which is really saying something. waiicoolwink

Seem's Hiroaki Shibata being replaced in the producer's chair halfway through the series has done it good, now.

It's also helped that In terms of merchandising, this series is at a 46% increase compare to happiness charge at the same time.

I'm not a fan of the design and seeing it in action only made it look that much worse to me. In terms of red Cure designs I'd put her dead last so Passion = Ace > Rouge > Sunny > Scarlet(t).

Maybe it's too busy, even for the princess design. In general, I don't really like Towa's hair.

See this episode, it really noticeable just how good the animation is. In this case, the violin playing is realistic. Not only the fingers positions, when Haruka's playing, you can see that even though she's pretty good, she's still a novice. Every time she changes notes, she draws her bow. In this, novices usually draw the bow every time they change notes because they have not used with the finger positions and by drawing the bow, they can have a hunch on where the note is. The result is her draws are short and somewhat stilted, compared to Kanata's and Towa's playing.

See Toei, you can give your magical girl shows a proper budget, and they'll be improved by it. Though I suppose Sailor Moon Crystal never had a shot. Op changes again. I do enjoy some good zetsubou. Now let's see what Towa has beyond that. I do like her in her Twilight outfit. Good violin playing. Dyspear fights like Desperiah, but actually good. The fight was pretty good too. More violin and onii-chan despair blah blah. Though Towa saying she'll live with her sins gives me some hope for her character. Why do fire Cures always get the best transformations? Sunny, Ace, now Scarlet. Maybe not Rouge though. Not too fond of her design, but the music was great, and the violin weapon was so ridiculous (this isn't Suite people) that it became great. Her phoenix was cooler than Smile's powered by 5 Cures. For shame Smile. Next episode we begin building up Towa's character, and if she's good this show can still make a comeback.

I really loved the new music tracks they introduced this episode. And the way the two violin songs worked together....beautiful.
