These political types are never going to learn that kicking up a fuss about nothings like this are an absolutely certain way to make it worse for them, are they?

This just makes the governer look petty.

Who the hell do they think they are, to order her to say it? I guess the principal's authority got to his head...

One of the articles I read on this said that the principal had specifically drafted certain sentences/themes to be included in the apology letter. I wonder what those were and how political they were? Either way, that would make the apology letter really come across as artificial.

Making students write apology letters is a pretty common apology, especially if the offense is someone of importance, like a political figure or school official. It's pretty much pointless and used to save face, I honestly have never seen this type of punishment work.

Good for the girl, though. Most students probably would have sighed and written the apology anyway.

head of school: write and apology letter

me: k -gets out piece of paper and writes the following- dear offended person, go fuck yourself. sincerely Van

Tch, talk about a tempest in a teapot. She didn't say anything of substance, and you'd think politicians who've been in it as long as Sam Brownback should be used to insults. I guess he just really doesn't like kids sassing their elders?

I don't really care whether or not she apologised, but that tweet just sounds plain rude and pointless, and it doesn't seem to be anything she should be lauded as a hero for refusing to back down from.

So basically it's looking like the governor is pretty much the only one involved in this entire debacle who wasn't being a petty asshat, or at least had the good sense to recognize bad publicity. Wow.

People should definitely have the right to say what they think of a vapid, shallow and openly self destructive group like the Tea Party. I am not calling them Republicans any more, because the insane people took it over and kicked out any moderates.

First of all, this is news how exactly?

Second of all, she's literally gotten in trouble for saying nothing. Also, why was her principal on her twitter?

Why is this news?

The story is that the girl was tweeting to her 65 friends about how she thinks the governor #blowsalot. The governor's office monitors any twitter messages with his name in them, whether it is hash-tagged, @'d, or not, and they informed the principal. I don't know if they did this with the governor's permission or not.

And Its much more that the principal overreacted more than the staff. I think that she has the right to say what she wants about a public figure.

And this is news because its about the governor and the seeming suspension of her right to free-speech.

This whole story is utterly ridiculous.

In any case, I'm glad she stood her ground.

Truly the worst thing that'll come out of this is that all her new Twitter followers are going to be sorely disappointed by the lack of content in her tweets once this blows over.

Her comment is a total non-issue. We rake our politicians over the coals as a matter of routine (look at all the loving that Palin, Bush, Obama, Clinton, Joe Who-bob get from just about anyone), why is this any different? Becasue a minor said it? Big freaking deal. Everybody bashes politicians, why does she get singled out?
