- Characters and comics that originated in X-Men and its related books but are no longer connected to the franchise are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their X-Men related stories here.
Discussions that are only about X-Men adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.

- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).
I have to say that the X Men franchise has been going on for decades. Maybe not as many as the Superman franchise has, but it still has quite a number to it.
One thing I am certain of is that the franchise seems to be subverting Status Quo Is God in recent years. Magneto and Professor Xavier seem to be fading into the background, with Cyclops and Wolverine taking their places. A lot of villains associated to the X-Men have been killed off and have actually stayed dead so far.
All this gives me the general impression that the franchise is trying to reinvent itself. Do you think that's what's going on here?

I'm really glad X-Men Red will have the Besterverines, instead of any Broverines. Laura and Gabby are awesome.
Though Gabby's presence may indicate that All-New Wolverine is going to end and be replaced by Logan returning as Wolverine. And ugh, fuck that guy.
I'm not sure why they put a shirt on Namor. Why would they do that? Who thought a shirt on Namor would be a good idea?
I'll be interested to learn more about Trinary.

And that outfit was disliked last I recall.
There are certain things you don't mess with. Batman's well everything, Supermans shield, boots & cape, Powergirl's clevage window & Namor letting it all hang loose. 
Well, I though it was better. There's also Scarlet Witch (2015), which does away with the bathing suit.

The fact that it so blatantly seems like something to appease the fans that didn't like the character (up to and including the character giving herself a "The Reason You Suck" Speech that mirrors common fan complaints as she dies) makes me think there's gonna be something more to it.

Well, in the wake of the X-Men coming to MCU in some years, I kind of feel inclined to read some of their stories.
Does anyone know about the Marvel Comics Digest series by Archie Comics? My local supermarket has one for the X-Men for $6.99. Are those a good refresher for the chronicles of the Children of the Atom?

I haven't heard of that, I think where I started was with some trades of the Claremont run that I got from the library. Check out to see if Marvel Unlimited as a free month available.
And thank god that they will probably retcon Magneto into being Pietro and Wanda's father again, though I ignore that bullshit that happened in Axis.

I don't know man. They'd kinda hit a wall in that regard.
They were at the point where they didn't know how not to be at each other's throats (Pietro and Mags especially), so on some level I feel like not having them be related anymore was liberating for both Maximov siblings. Then again, they'd been mutants for so long, that suddenly cutting them out of that took out a large chunk of their history.
I'm not sure what really works best for them anymore.
