So, this bill was going to prevent ISP's from doing that?

yes. this bill is to protect the internet as it is now and not let IS Ps charge you for how you use it, or tell you that you need extra fees to visit one website over another, etc.

Basically the right was pushing through legislation to end net neutrality which prevented the corporations from placing a money based choke point on all internet traffic across their services.

[up][up]sorry, phrased it wrong. some net neutrality protections have already been passed in the past few years. this bill was created by right-wingers in an attempt to kill net neutrality. and it just got defeated.

still trying to figure out who the 46 were that voted against it. the person who proposed it should have been tossed out of congress for suggesting it.

this bill was, without a doubt, one of the most clear-cut instances of passing a law that would harm all citizens and their freedom in order to help corporations make more profit. Clearly, anyone in government who was in favour of killing net neutrality has no interest in representing the citizens. seriously, this should have been a litmus test for "Are you a politician to take bribes and make money or to represent the people?"

Good, now if they can torch that stupid SOPA bill, then we will be smooth sailing for the next few months or so.
