They always say that, but in reality it becomes Pay To Win...

Also this means no singleplayer mode....

God I'm so down.

The only place where "single player" belongs is in Solaris VII. The game has always been about warfare involving at least 4 units on each side.

You know what I mean.

I mean with a story and stuff. Not some lousy BR infested MMO garbage.

In any case, here you can reserve your name. http://mwomercs.com/game

Well as long they recreate some of the full scale battles and keep the control concepts of mechwarrior I will be most pleased. However if they water it down and attach bullshitty rpg elements then I am afraid I must CALL AN INTERDICTION ON THOSE HERETICS reject this game.

Jesus, the Publishers made it living hell for Devs, and pretty much forced them to make it an MMO.

Proof they are the worst thing to happen to gaming.

Basically it sounds like you can pay for cosmetic things but have to earn stuff that actually matters. So you can shell out 1.50$ for the Kell Hounds paint scheme but if you want an Executioner with all the trimmings you have to earn it. At least that's how I am picturing it.

So they say. Every F 2 P has claimed its like that but it ends up affecting gameplay.

[up][up] Team Fortress 2's in a good place about it. Battlefield Heroes was this...at first.sad League Of Legends is also in a pretty good place about it, I'd say, but that one's probably more controversial.

Yeah. It seems inevitable but you can hold on to the fact that some games take longer to reach the slope than others.

Plus there is the issue that there should only technically be four factions as opposed to five. The Federated Commonwealth/House Steiner-Davion hasn't broken up yet. I'm expecting many... liberties to be taken regarding the canon. Ones I'm likely to be very anal about.tongue

Just realized that Thorn's summary in the opening post reminds me of Mech Assault rather than Mechwarrior. Therefore, it will probably catch on with everyone who isn't a Battletech fan- and that means more profit. Smart move.

It's about time we had a new, proper Mech Warrior. Wasn't expecting something along the lines of Multiplayer Battletech Solaris/3025, though.

I don't know whether it'll beat Mech Warrior 2/3/4, but at least I won't have to fork out cash to find out.

So this is before the Comstar/Word Of Blake split right?

Yes. The schism occurred in 3052; after the Comguards halted the Clans at Tukayyid and the Primus of Com Star got killed by the Comguards leader after she attempted to take over all of human space in the worst planned covert operation ever. The Wo B broke off after the moderates tried to secularize the organization (as Blake had truly intended it to be) then and 15 years later turned out to be WMD happy, Too Dumb to Live Complete Monster.

I hope the game goes up to the battle of Tukayyid. That will be one epic fight.

[up]Yeah I know. I just recently read an abridged history of the star league (all the way up to the split) via a Comstar Soucebook. still trying to learn all of the details

Its looking like we will only be able to play as mercenaries; which is probably the best way to fit in as many different types of Mechs and missions as possible. Unless they change the story (entirely possible) to place mercs at Tukayyid or allow us to join the Comguards or House armies; we might be locked out of major story events.

Huh. I have zero knowledge about the Battle Tech universe. I've read one novel, Ghosts Of Winter, and that was long after the clan invasion and on a planet that was explicitly stated to be a unimportant backwater. And i mostly ignored the plot in Mech Warrior 4. Humph.

Wonder what faction i'll be playing as.

[up]The highest bidder?cool

Though if I was staying in character (I'm big into the roleplaying aspect of the Battle Tech universe), as a merc I'd avoid working with the Free Rasalhague Republic and the Draconis Combine due to their distaste for soldiers of fortune.

I think you'd be fine if you were recognised by the DCMS. Can't speak about the FRR though.
