Note about "close 'til TRS resolves" threads, and vote tallies:

I didn't get a chance to say this in the Fun Personified thread, but for threads that are successfully closed with a "vote to table discussion until TRS thread resolves", the hidden tag should specifically note this instead of our usual "don't change without a new IP thread" note.

Also, something that I've been thinking about lately is the various motions/actions we take and how many votes should be enough to act on these. Here's what we've got that I can think of:

• Pull current pic
• Approve a suggested pic
• Call trope unpictureable
• Table discussion until TRS resolves

I didn't hear any griping about my suggestion for a simple majority of votes to pull after the agreed-upon 24 hr wait. I usually like to have seven yea votes for a pic before rolling with it unless the thread is lagging. For the other two, I'm thinking 7 and 5 yea votes, respectively...too many?

The Squirrel Girl picture is perfect. Why change it?

Do you mean 7 votes total, or a seven vote margin? I don't think we need that big of a number if the thread is unanimous. Like if somebody makes a motion to pull the image and 24 hours later there are four votes to pull with none to keep, we could pull it anyway.

I'm not sure that the motion thing really applies in every situation either. Here's how I'd break it down:

Motion to pull due to JAFAAC

• 24 hour waiting period before action is taken.
• If there are at least 3 votes in favor of pulling and none in favor of keeping, it gets pulled.
• If there are votes in favor of keeping (or keeping until a better image is found), the image stays regardless of votes, and we switch to a crowner, because it's easier to keep track of votes that way.

Approve Suggested pic

I'm not sure how this really fits in as a "motion"; unless you mean the impromptu votes we take when there's only one viable suggestion. If that's the case, I'd say that if there's a clear consensus (like 2/3 approval) put it up, if it's closer than that, or there are too many votes or other viable options, do a crowner.

Call trope unpicturable

Same as Approve Suggested Pic, basically; if there's obvious consensus, fine, if not go to a crowner.

Table discussion until TRS is resolved

I don't think we need a motion for this; if there's a currently active TRS thread that involves the trope definition, the IP thread goes on hiatus until the resolution, regardless of votes. Same goes if we decide that a TRS is necessary. If the trope definition is in contention, picking an image is obviously impossible. This doesn't apply if the TRS thread only concerns a rename and not the definition.

This thread is for discussiong the issues that came up in that thread, not discussing the picture. We already decided that we're going to hold off on messing with the image until the TRS thread irons out the trope definition.

Just for interest, since I have no idea about TRS and how it works, but what is the process involved in repairing this trope? I remember someone mentioning something about TRS being shut to new examples?

Repairing a trope is complicated, and different every time. In this case, the trope is being heavily misused because the title sounds like something different than what it is. The solution will probably be to split it, or perhaps rename.

However, we have a lot of tropes that need fixing, and it takes time to do each one. A lot of them get a thread opened up and then forgotten about, which is why the TRS freeze is on right now, until some of the older threads are cleared out.
