What USAF said.

It was a good core idea in principle, but done in the wrong way for the wrong motivations.

Apparently I am adorable, but my GF is my #1 Groupie. (Avatar by Dreki-K)

I can happily link arguments for Wikileaks all day, but the topic is not "Is Wikileaks worth defending?" but "Was Wikileaks worth defunding?". Particularly in this manner.

Pfft, I don't give a shit. Call me when somebody will do what WikiLeaks did properly and not in the most asshattish manner possible. Oh, and without releasing active US Military battle plans and putting soldiers' lives at risk, too.

Fucking jackasses.

Yeah, wikileaks' release of classified military intel has forever put them in my "hated" category. If they are defunded, I can't say I won't crack open a beer at the news.

Who cares that military information was leaked? Who cars that the establishment was pissed? Who cares that our secrets (which the public didn't even know about) were revealed? Who cares that some of our enemies might use it as fuel against it? I don't, because principles no longer matter in America.

That aside, I'd much rather deal with guys like Assange over guys like the Koch brothers, and knowing that monsters like them are getting a hand over the last few real journalists out there sickens me to no end.

Taoist and Sarvre are right, and ignoring them just because you don't like wikileaks is immature and irresponsible.

Sarvre: As someone going into the Army, military info being leaked is kinda important to me, because it could possibly lead to me getting shot.

I suppose I should just assume people never read anything I link anymore. From the third link:

What will happen is the information being sifted by Wikileaks (and a few other growing and semi-legitimate leaks-type organizations) will be distributed anyway, by whatever means is convenient. It will be chaos, uncontrollable, unredacted, and entirely in the hands of the people least likely to be responsible with it.
The info and security breaches aren't going away: they'll just become decentralized and self-organized. Which means the people releasing them won't bother talking to the newspapers or attempting to negotiate with governments first, like Wikileaks tried to do.

Apparently this is acceptable in exchange for the chance to punish Assange and Wikileaks for not being nice enough when they outed stuff like the Iranian connections to Al Qaeda suicide bombers or the war crimes in Sri Lanka or the other 80% of everything they leak that has nothing to do with the U.S. Military. Good job. That'll show 'em.

Frankly, I don't think Wikileaks has any more moral superiority in this situation than any of the governments they're leaking information about. So yeah... I'm neutral on this. If they want to defund it, then they can go ahead and do so.

I made up my own mind about wikileaks when I heard they were leaking classified military intel. That alone sullied them in my eyes.

They may do good here and there, but I can't say I support them. Anyway, I'm not feeling too well tonight, so I'm not gonna get into this.

WikiLeaks lost any shot at my support the moment they put US troops in danger, and they deserve whatever shit comes their way.

People die in war. Sad day for them, sad day for me.

That's not acceptable. You don't release active battle plans and information on informants to the US Government against terrorists and expect anything less than virulent hatred.

They're not journalists, Sarvre, they're people leaking information that could potentially put others in danger.

And actually, lots and lots of people are saying shit about the war in Iraq, because it was freaking stupid to go over there. It's a damn good thing we're pulling out.

Actually, USAF, check again.

They removed personally identifiable information.

They really didn't put any lives in danger, and no one has died.

Don't you think if anyone had actually been killed by anything wikileaks released, the pentagon and politicians would make as much noise about it as possible? Why do you think that hasn't happened?

Sarve@I think the Koch brothers is a different injustice for another day. However,Wikileaks really need didn't think things through or didn't give a dang about what they were leaking out.
