She's scrawny and looks like she hadn't slept a day in her life.
So, regarding the latest chapter, I wonder if she now starts getting a little attention. As a certain other anime recently reminded me "The opposite of love isn't hate; it's apathy", so standing out like that might convince a few more people to talk to her.
Of course, she's still a creep and somewhat horrible human being, so that won't be quite the end of her quest.
I just started to read this after seeing the thread and after spending the night catching up to the latest chapter, I find that Tomoko is by far one of the biggest woobies that I have ever seen in fiction. Not insignificantly due to the way you can so easily relate to at least some of her problems.
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobShe's a cute, funny, sympathetic and charming protagonist, very unique for a manga and one you'd love to befriend, and yet at the same time she's such a vile and disgusting character. Like, Shinji-level disgusting, because everything bad that ever happens to her is entirely her own fault. She never had any bullies, never had any antagonists that try to stop her, and in fact had plenty of chances to prove herself that she's got a great personality, with plenty of people giving her their hand. But no, she blew every single one of them because she's so reckless, and assuming. I have a close friend who refuses to read the manga because of this, despite the fact that I rave about it every day.
Just think of how legendary she'd be in school if she were only, you know, socially literate. She'd probably be a snarky goth girl, but a classy one, the one to get admirers from everywhere and boys lusting over.

"With great power comes great responsibility" - Kurt Cobain, Nickelback (2003)I don't think that social phenomenon really exists in Japan.
Agreed. That don't make no sense.
Eh. Not really interested.
Oh man they actually greenlit the anime for tis
The implication underneath the series is supposed to be quite deep, if you look at it that way.
"We don't care what the manga's about! If it's getting an anime adaptation, MAKE A SPIN-OFF!"
^^^^^^^ (seven posts up) Most, if not all, of us have quite the imagination, and even I think that bit about the character's potential is a bit of a stretch.
Meh I am not really a 4-Koma person so I will probally skip this one.
Are there hints to when the anime will air?
Is it just me, but between the spin off (granted that was earlier so maybe she grew out of it) and later chapters, but is Tomoko becoming more of a Jerkass instead of just completely socially awkward?
Like, are they trying to make it where I don't feel bad for her anymore?
Well a new chapter's appeared! It's awfully sedate, but this time it seems that Tomoko's avoided making a fool out of herself!
Hmm, so it's after Tomoko's birthday, and she has a meeting with Yu. Girl talk ensues, and somehow the topic suddenly gets a lots of XXX Xs in it, if you know what I mean. :P
Also, the Les Yay was off the charts. Tomoko needs to get her head out of the gutter, really.
I want a Yuri ending now. :V
For a moment there I thought Yu was asking about yaoi. You know, "yaoi te nani?" and all that.
Or is that old now?

Actually this chapter seems to be one of those instances where the writer throws Mokocchi a bone... which means its back to humiliating her next chapter. ^^;
Read the spin-off chapters. Pretty good ones.
Specially funny to see Tomoko being all jealous towards Yui.
RealidadeAlso, did anyone catch the hint that it was actually Yuu who was doing what she was describing to Mokocchi (which is to say, sex)? The way she used "a friend of mine" was a big sign, and I think Tomoko quickly picked up on that too.
New chapter is out. Now with 80% more melancholy.
Not a whole lot of funnies this time, but for some reason, I really liked it anyway.
Laughing at Mokocchi's misfortunes is all good and well, but chapters like this are also welcome, as it gives Tomoko the opportunity to actually, y'know, reflect on the stuff she's doing.
She gets some time not being a horrible human being (Dame ningen!)
New chapter, and she actually made some nice social contact with a stranger, and didn't make an ass of herself at all!
I think it was very cute, makes me wonder why did she become so shy in the first place.

Shyness is a hard cycle to break. If you start out shy, but grow out of it, you'll still be mostly friendless where everyone else have already formed their groups. It's very hard to break into one of those groups to start your social life, so the best you can hope for is stumble over someone who is also alone (if only for the moment) so you can have a non-awkward conversation.
Not drop dead gorgeous?! You take that back!
