Turns out it was a Shiny Rayquaza. Who was the daughter of Rayquaza (male) and Giratina (female). Giratina, by the by, is referred to as the Ghost Queen. I don't know why but I am really not okay with this.

Probably because it totally ignores how breeding works in Pokémon.

I personally have no qualms with a fic playing around with having Legendaries breed, but ignoring the "kid is same species as mom (bar exceptions like Nidoran)" rule is going a bit too far.

I'm also not okay with Giratina just being referred to as the Ghost Queen when she's one of the Creation Trio.

I also kinda prefer the Creation Trio to be genderless but eh.

Between the stuff in the rewrite of the first five chapters of the first story and stuff at the beginning of Chapter 12 of the second, Latias and Latios' relationship is borderline incestuous. Like, according to the work page, this is supposedly an Ash/Latias series but I'd believe more if it was stated to be a Latias/Latios series.

Seriously, there's at least one point in one of the first fave chapters that sounds like Latias is about to confess her love for Latios if you put it in the script format. I'm pretty sure this qualifies for Relationship Writing Fumble.

If I were going to write a deconstruction of SUPER ASH fics, I'd have a few OC's just tear through his team with actual competitive strategies.

But that requires me to care about the anime and the games meta.Oh well, I can write a spite fic.

I made a rather long review for my thoughts on the "A New Chance" Series.

TL;DR: The story was going someplace good but is falling into pitfalls I've seen all too often.

For a second there, I confused the two Biancas and thus was really scrambled when I noticed Ash was in Hoenn until I saw what fanfic this was.

How about a quasi-yuri story that re-tells the original series (along with stuff from later series) but with the main character role shared between Misty and Serena.

The idea being that the person who wrecks Misty's bike is Serena (who's running for possibly similar reasons to why Ash was running when she first met him) while the one who Serena met in the past is Misty (but unlike in the anime, she doesn't realize it).

I figure elements from across all the different canons could be taken, and you could drawn on version of both characters from other stuff (i.e., take some Aspects of their Pokemon Adventures counterparts).

One thought I've had is to play up the idea that Misty was supposed to be a bit of a inexperienced battler, not unlike Ash (or in this case Serena, who knew even less about Pokemon). My idea is that she's just as good as she is in the original series (where she had her fair share of victories) but unlike in canon, her sisters are legitimately skilled. Basically, they are all the gym leaders, with a different sister being the chosen opponent depending on the skill (measured in badges) of the trainer. Misty is the one who battles trainers with either one badge or less, and while she's good for her level, she's well behind her sisters in terms of skills.

To add insult to injury, despite this, she's just as passionate about water pokemon and water battles as she is in the original series, and her sisters are just as obsessed with fashion and clothes instead....but they are far more skilled than her. One of the reasons she starts travelling with Serena (with the wrecked bike still being an excuse) is that she realizes that if she stays around her home, she'll never get any better no matter how much she likes it. She's the big fish in the small pond, and still overshadowed by her sisters.

Might add one or two more characters (with at least one being female) from other regions to kinda allude to how there have been 3 to four companions in the different seasons (even if only Hoenn and currently X and Y had four characters).

There are other details to work out (what is Serena's quest? How will the evil teams be incorporated? Etc, etc), but one final thought I've had on it:

When they met as kids, they both thought the other was a boy.

I like it, it has the potential to be WAFF.

Had a similar yuri story about Luna and Lillie. Luna being a Genki Girl and Lillie being a Defrosting Ice Queen, using White Rose as a sort of basis for the ship. Then my mind started to incorporate more crap into it, like Adventures!Mei being the story's Blake and an ACI of Hilda being Yang.

It's... Yeah. Well, it beats the story I had where Lillie was Zygarde.

Heh. A shame that there's no way it can happen until I catch up on the other games in the series. Still haven't beaten Platinum or Heart Gold, or black and Black 2...and I recently bought Y and Omega Ruby, but haven't touched those either. My current gaming backlog is killing me in a way I never expected.

I've been writing a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon fanfic (partially as an experiment to see what I can pull off) and I'd like to hear some criticism on it. So far there's not too much special about it other than the perspective flips that'll happen chapter by chapter and a little detail dropped at the end of P2, but as it goes on there'll be a fair number of plot twists and a few elements I'll be deconstructing. For now, though, I've just got these two chapters, a third incoming and a fourth in the works. Let me know what you guys think, I'd like to hear some opinions on it.

In all honesty I feel a little awkward since my first post in this thread's me posting my fanfic and being like "let me know what you think!" but I guess it's not that bad. At the very least it'll open up a little discussion here.

So I have an idea

Following around a Pokemon trainer who got the message completely wrong as a kid.

And has been travelling the world.

Fighting pokemon.

With his fists.

In Sinnoh, there exists a legend of a boy who took up his sword and went about slaying Pokemon for some reason or another. If memory serves, it is because of that boy's violence that Pokemon generally hide from humans and only appear before them in tall grass or caves unless caught. You could tell his story but it'd be less comical and more tragic.

That aside, there are a large number of ways to go about doing that depending on what, exactly, you're okay with. The easiest would be saying "Fuck you, humans can take Pokemon barehanded" and just rolling with it. You can also run with the theory that humans are also Pokemon and say that this particular human is genetically closer to Fighting-type Pokemon than to other humans and run with it (you could have some fun with this one and build a merry band of misfits if you so wished). You could probably also do it a few other ways I'm not thinking of.

So basically Masaru/Marcus from Digimon Savers/Data Squad if he was in Pokemon?

Finally, after far too long because fuck life, it's finished. The prologue and Chapter 1 of When Two Become One are finally finished. You can find them on FF.net and on AO3.

So my first review is some guy complaining because I capitalize the species name of Pokemon. You know, like the games and everyone I've ever seen that bothers with capitalization does.

I don't know what to make of that.

Seems like he has a problem with Capital Letters Are Magic. To be fair, he does have a point. Some fanfics that try to take the setting with a serious rationalistic approach do away with the unnecessary capitalizations.

Speaking of such fanfics, I've recently been introduced to Pokemon: The Origin of Species. It's a really good read, and I've been captivated by the amount of work done to put the setting through the lens of rationalism.

Well, I'm following the games as much as possible so... yeah.

You know what's surprisingly difficult? Creating an evil team, making them interesting, and making them make sense from a certain point of view.

Started reading Ashes of the Past yesterday. I don't know enough about Pokemon for it all to make sense but I like the stuff that does enough to think it's very good indeed.
