Hey could someone post a list of the Good, SFW tumblrs? I would rather not read this whole thread, but I am looking for something pony related to read.

The SFW Tumblrs I follow are

I posted recommendations two pages back. There's some overlap with the above list.

Ask Aquilinius (Has a lot of range between slapstick, drama, silly stuff, and interesting fanon worldbuilding. Probably my overall favourite. Has occasional NSFW content, but nothing that bad.)
Ask Surprise (I love the artstyle, and it's pretty consistently funny.)
Ask Blueblood (Has stopped updating, now. However, the archives are more than worth a once-through.)
Ask Twilight Sparkle (Teh awesome.)
Rarity Replies/Pinkie Pie Replies (Made by the same person. Rarity has stopped updating, and been replaced with Pinkie Pie.)
Ask Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie (Honestly, I think this is a bit overrated, since it has hardly any content other than generic cutesy-wutesiness, but it's still worth following.)
Ask Echo the Wonderbolt (The art on this is freaking awesome, though I think the blog hasn't reached its full potential yet, and feels a bit generic despite the interesting concept for the OC.)
Pinkie Pie Answers (I love the unique artstyle. Shame it doesn't update very often.)
Ask the Pie Sisters (It started out really strong, but I think it's been losing its quality recently. Here's to hoping it'll gain momentum again.)

Man, its been a while since I've been in this thread. Oh by the way, there's a Ask A Pony page now. Now we have tropes to add! Mwhahaha!

Just before I throw up another post, something's been bugging me a bit.

I feel sort of like I'm trying too hard to make Dumbbell more sympathetic. Like, I'm trying to distance myself from his old 'jerk' self too much, and introducing too many elements to make him seem nicer or more sympathetic.

First there was the teacher thing. That's excusable, since there's no real canon for them beyond being a jerk to Dash once or twice, so it's not unreasonable to imagine they have actual goals, maybe even some nice ones in canon. But with the latest update I'll be revealing that Dumbbell's dad left his family before he got his cutie mark.

He doesn't really care, having long since gotten over the issue and even being on relatively good terms with his dad, even if they don't talk a lot. I'm just worried that it'll seem like a cheap attempt at creating sympathy or getting people to overlook his actions as having some sort of Freudian excuse - considering that he does, and it could be seen to be an even cheaper attempt at sympathy. Again, Dumbbell has pretty much worked out all his issues, and he still recognizes that in spite of having reasons for it, he was an asshole. He's up front about that, and okay with it. I'm just worried the viewers might think I'm trying to turn him into a Woobie or something.

You're going to have to work hard to make him not care that much because the second you mentioned a father that left, I rolled my eyes and thought "oh look, a way to draw sympathy from the reader."

I understand your intent but sadly intent doesn't always come across in a work.

I think it might work, Kegi. Just don't draw too much attention the the fact he doesn't have a dad and he should be fine.

Hm. Okay, for the father issue, how about if I don't actually say it outright? I've had a question about how their parents reacted, so in Dumbbell's it would only be his mom there - that would be a pretty big hint. Would it feel less like an attempt at sympathy and more like just an element of the character if he didn't comment on it?

For the time being, at least, I'll take it out of this update. Not going to change that element, but there should at least be a more opportune moment to bring it up, rather than an unrelated question.
